Job summary

Tampa Electric Company is seeking an Engineer (varies) with power plant experience to support reliability and availability of generating units at Polk facility. This multi-level Engineer role rotates responsibilities and provides engineering and technical support in plant engineering, construction, operation, and maintenance.

The candidate should have a BS in an engineering field, 18+ months of relevant experience, and ideally a PE license.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial or Chemical Engineering from an accredited college.
  • Minimum 18 months of work experience in power plant engineering or 12 months with FE.
  • Preferred: PE License.

Responsibilities

  • Provide engineering support for assigned systems and equipment by evaluating performance, troubleshooting issues, leading root cause investigations, and implementing solutions that improve reliability, availability, and cost effectiveness.
  • Manage equipment reliability and asset health by maintaining assessments, engineering records, testing and inspection programs, and supporting asset management and risk mitigation initiatives.
  • Lead and support capital and O&M projects by developing long-range improvement plans, reviewing designs and specifications, and ensuring safe, cost-effective project execution.
  • Develop, maintain, and improve engineering standards, technical specifications, drawings, documentation, and compliance programs for assigned plant systems and equipment.
  • Provide technical leadership, guidance, and training to plant personnel and contractors while supporting continuous improvement and knowledge sharing.

Position Concept This position is for an Engineer I level to Senior engineer with power plant experience and/or heavy industrial experience. This position serves as a technical employee in plant engineering, construction, operation and maintenance. The individual provides engineering and technical support to improve the reliability and availability of the generating units while reducing overall costs in the assigned systems and equipment. In this position, the engineer reports to the Maintenance Manager at Polk Power Station. This position shall serve as a focal point for specific engineering skills and be able to analyze and resolve complex issues. This position should be involved in industry seminars/workshops to continue their technical expertise and develop new ways of treating both old and new problems. Duties And Responsibilities

Within the limits of authorized objectives, policies, procedures, plans, schedules and budgets, this position has the responsibility and commensurate authority to:

  • Provide engineering support for assigned systems and equipment by evaluating performance, troubleshooting issues, leading root cause investigations, and implementing solutions that improve reliability, availability, and cost effectiveness.
  • Manage equipment reliability and asset health by maintaining equipment assessments, engineering records, testing and inspection programs, and supporting asset management and risk mitigation initiatives.
  • Lead and support capital and O&M projects by developing long-range improvement plans, reviewing designs and specifications, and ensuring safe, cost-effective, and high-quality project execution.
  • Develop, maintain, and improve engineering standards, technical specifications, drawings, documentation, and compliance programs for assigned plant systems and equipment.

Education

Required: Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial or Chemical Engineering degree from an accredited college.

Licenses/Certifications

Preferred: PE License.

Experience

Required: Minimum of 18 months of work experience related to the Duties & Responsibilities of this position in the area of power plant engineering or 12 months with FE.

Preferred: Minimum of 3 years of work experience performing the Duties & Responsibilities of this position in power plant engineering.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

Required: The position requires a working knowledge of power plant design. Knowledge of basic plant processes and chemical reactions is required. A strong attention to detail, good planning skills, good written/verbal communication skills, the ability to work in a team environment and a heightened awareness for safety is required. Must be able to pass a pulmonary function and negative pressure respirator fit test. Must be able to use personal protective equipment (PPE) on-the-job.
