Storm Duty Requirements

Responding to storms will be considered a condition of employment. Team members are required to participate in response / recovery activities related to emergencies/disasters to maintain service to TECO customers and perform normal duties or other assigned activities. Compensation will be made in accordance with company rules and procedures.

Position Concept

Role emphasizes advanced level control / process engineering, including design, implementation, and optimization of systems used to control, monitor, alarm, trend, and regulate equipment and processes within Energy Supply.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Provide project lead on assigned projects and give technical support to the Outage & Project Management team and other Energy Supply personnel as required.
• Fill in, as requested, for the Lead I&C Engineer in his/her absence.
• Monitor ongoing work activities to confirm manufacturer/fabricator compliance to project plans, specifications, and enforce compliance to all regulatory requirements.
• Monitor daily work activities of contractors and coordinate work with O&M Construction, plant outage coordinators, station planners and on‑site/off‑site contractors.
• Coordinate TECO comments to consulting engineer and supplier documents, ensuring documents are appropriately issued, maintained and permanently filed.
• Advise and assist O&M Construction personnel in developing Scope of Works, project schedules, and cost estimates.
• Schedule and facilitate project team meetings / conference calls to maintain project schedules and costs.
• Support Energy Supply power plants in identifying and solving O&M problems, augmenting plant staff when needed to meet day‑to‑day and outage requirements.

Supervisory Experience

Preferred: Two years of experience supervising cooperative education students and/or contractors.

Education

Required: Bachelor of Science in engineering from an ABET accredited college program.

Licenses / Certifications

Preferred: Pass the Florida Fundamentals of Engineering exam and registration as a Licensed Professional Engineer in the State of Florida.

Experience

1. Engineer II: Minimum 4 years of engineering work experience, focused on project engineering or plant maintenance in heavy industry or utility business.
2. Engineer III: Minimum 8 years of engineering work experience, focused on project engineering or plant maintenance in heavy industry or utility business.
3. Preferred: 8 years of experience working in utility generating facilities or engineering companies performing work for utility generating facilities.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Required: Demonstrated sound knowledge in controls/process engineering; ability to execute complex or novel assignments requiring development of new or improved techniques and procedures; possible coordination of complex engineering studies and reports; ability to coordinate activities of outside consultants on complex projects.
• Preferred: Knowledge of company policies and work procedures; strong proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and OSI PI historian; high level of project engineering skill in controls/process engineering.

Working Conditions

Travel – Up to 10%, overnight and extended assignments possible; travel to Big Bend, Bayside and Polk Power Stations is expected and could be frequent; travel may be national and limited international. Work in an industrial environment (including heights and confined space). Overtime (nights, weekends, holidays) and outdoor work in hot, humid, wet, or cold conditions 25% to 50% of the workday.

Physical Demands / Requirements

Requires climbing stairs and scaffolding, using safety harnesses, respiratory protection and other PPE. Ability to stand and walk for extended periods. Working in noise, dust, and high humidity areas while utilizing personal protection equipment; flexibility to crawl in and out of tight confined areas.
