Base pay range

$66,951.00/yr - $107,621.00/yr

Duties Description

Bridge Maintenance - Duties will be discussed in detail at the interview. In general, the incumbent will perform a variety of duties as an Assistant Regional Bridge Maintenance Engineer under the supervision of a licensed, professional engineer. Responsibilities include developing bridge maintenance work programs, supervising field crews, overseeing performance evaluations, planning and coordinating work, providing technical assistance, supervising bridge flag resolution, responding to emergencies, and coordinating repair and maintenance programs. The role may also involve supporting the department's response to regional and statewide emergencies within the Incident Command System.

Minimum Qualifications

This position is part of the NY HELPS program. Candidates must meet the open competitive minimum qualifications:

  • Either a bachelor's degree or higher in engineering or engineering technology, OR
  • Proof of passing the NCEES Fundamentals of Engineering Examination (FE) and one year of full-time engineering experience.

As an Engineer Trainee, you will serve a 24-month traineeship leading to Assistant Engineer. Early promotion is possible if FE is obtained and traineeship requirements are met. For Assistant Engineer, qualifications include passing the FE exam and either a qualifying degree or one year of full-time engineering experience in transportation projects.

Additional Comments

This title may be filled via a non-competitive appointment during the program, with potential conversion to competitive status later. Educational credentials must be from accredited institutions or verified for equivalency if outside the U.S. The starting salary for Engineer Trainee is $66,951, and for Assistant Engineer is $97,673, with possible adjustments based on location. Applicants must be authorized to work in the U.S. on a full-time basis.
