Job summary

United Engineering & Consulting (UEC) in Columbia, SC is seeking a mid-level Quality Control Inspector to support highway and bridge construction projects. JOB DESCRIPTION: MID-LEVEL QUALITY CONTROL INSPECTOR

Location: Columbia, SC

United Engineering & Consulting (UEC) is seeking an experienced Quality Control Inspector to support highway and bridge construction projects in Columbia, SC, and surrounding areas.

This position offers an opportunity to expand your technical expertise while working directly with contractors, engineers, and project teams on major transportation infrastructure projects. As part of UEC’s growing Quality Control team, you will help verify that materials and completed work meet project requirements while supporting safe and efficient construction.

General Expectations and Specific Responsibilities (including, but are not limited to):

• Perform quality control inspections and assist with the administration of highway and bridge construction projects.
• Apply safe work practices to all responsibilities and maintain awareness of changing conditions on active project sites.
• Read and interpret construction plans, technical specifications, and project requirements.
• Monitor construction activities and work for compliance with the Project’s Construction Quality Management Plan (CQMP), plans, and specifications.
• Coordinate with the project’s Quality Control Manager to establish and implement appropriate quality control procedures and inspection activities.
• Perform on-site materials testing, sampling, and documentation of completed work.
• Prepare inspection reports and maintain organized records of testing, quantities, and construction activities per the Project’s CQMP.
• Identify and communicate deficiencies, discrepancies, and potential quality concerns to the Quality Control Manager and appropriate project personnel.
• Communicate clearly and professionally with the project team, client representatives, and client.
• Continue developing technical knowledge through training and applicable certifications.

Position Requirements

• Minimum of four years of construction inspection experience.
• Ability to interpret construction plans and specifications and apply them to field activities.
• Strong communication, organizational, and documentation skills.
• Proficiency with computers and tablets, including iPads, for reporting and project documentation.
• Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and contribute effectively within a project team.
• Valid state driver’s license and a clean driving record.

Certifications

Candidates must possess a combination of the following certifications applicable to their project assignment or be able to obtain them within six months of employment, subject to course and testing availability. Required certifications will be provided at no cost to the employee.

• SCDOT Earthwork, Drainage and Base Course Technician
• SCDOT Asphalt Roadway Technician
• ACI Field Level I
• SCDOT Level I & II Concrete
• Certified Erosion Prevention and Sediment Control Inspector
• SCDOT Foundations
• SCDOT Pavement Preservation, Seal Coat, Micro/Slurry, and Concrete Pavement
• Temporary Traffic Control Design and Supervision

Work Schedule And Travel

Travel to the assigned project site is required. Night and weekend work may be necessary based on construction schedules. Overnight travel is not routinely expected but may be required on a limited basis.

Compensation Range

$26-$32 per hour (anticipated 40-50 hours per week)
