Job summary

Knorr Brake Company in Westminster, MD is seeking a Systems Engineer to design and develop HVAC systems and controls for passenger rail transit vehicles. You will ensure on-time delivery within budget and meet specifications while maintaining customer satisfaction.

Responsibilities include system calculations, schematics, BOMs, cost and weight estimates, and technical support. Rail experience is a plus; a Bachelor's in engineering, math, or physics is required.

Qualifications

  • Must possess knowledge and practical understanding of HVAC equipment or similar electromechanical equipment and principles.
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, math, physics.
  • At least 5 years of experience as a Project Engineer or Project manager.
  • Rail experience is a plus.

  • Review customer specifications and create clause-by-clause documentation in response
  • Perform system performance calculations
  • Prepare technical proposals
  • Develop new system specifications and documentation such as system descriptions, tests, and analysis
  • Develop system schematics (piping diagrams) and keep updated
  • Create system bill of materials, keep updated, and provide costing/weight estimates per system bill of materials
  • Monitor/ensure specification compliance and create waivers when required
  • Provide customer feedback to design engineers and project management
  • Provide engineering task schedule input to project management
  • Review and approve customer manuals and training materials produced by the Engineering Services Department
  • Develop component specifications to meet requirements of the system
  • Provide quarterly project updates to Senior Staff and Department Managers regarding project progress
  • Check and verify the documentation created by other Systems Engineers
  • Develop new systems for the North American market, with new functions and features based on customer requirements
  • Provide technical support for the other Systems Engineers

Position Summary

The Systems Engineer is responsible for the execution of the design and development of HVAC systems and controls for passenger rail transit vehicles. The primary objectives of this position are to develop HVAC systems on-time, within the approved budget, and specification complaint while achieving a high level of customer satisfaction and minimizing or mitigating risks. The Project Engineer is responsible for the system design, including system calculations, system drawings, integration, testing, commissioning support, and technical support to other internal departments. They ensure the progress of the detail design development meets the project requirements, whilst ensuring specification compliance, or waivers are approved.

Essential Functions

The anticipated salary range for candidates who will work in Westminster, MD is $75,900 to $113,900 per year. The final pay offered to a successful candidate will be dependent on several factors that may include but are not limited to the type and years of experience within the job, the type of years and experience within the industry and education. Westminster Merak RAIL is a multi-state employer, and this pay scale may not reflect positions that work in other states or locations. Provided they meet all eligibility requirements under the applicable plan documents, employees (and their eligible dependents) will be eligible to enroll in group healthcare plans that offer medical, dental, vision, and basic life and disability insurance. Employees also will be able to enroll in our company’s 401k plan. Employees will also receive 120 hours of vacation leave and 40 hours of Personal Paid Absence every year. Employees will also enjoy 12 paid holidays, and 1 floating holiday throughout the calendar year, subject to relevant terms outlined in the employee handbook. 6 weeks of paid parental leave will also be available for use. Requirements for these benefits will be controlled by applicable plan documents and policies.
