  • Identify failure modes and mitigation through autonomous or operational controls.
  • Integrate, test, and ensure operational readiness of spacecraft, and support test programs.
  • Interact with program, functional, and customer leadership.
  • Develop and coordinate the conduct of test programs to evaluate design work.
  • Communicate complex technical concepts to both technical and non‑technical audiences.
  • Support and deliver Systems Engineering products and other deliverables with focus on mission success.
  • Write status and technical performance reviews, analyses, and reports.

Overview

Northrop Grumman invites applicants for a Systems Engineering position within the Fault Management and System Autonomy team in the Tactical Space Systems Division, located in Dulles, VA.

Responsibilities

As an individual contributor within a multidisciplinary team, you will:

  • Perform requirements synthesis and flow-down, verification/validation planning, system trade‑study support, and systems analysis.
  • Coordinate design efforts and manage technical budgets and interface definitions within the Fault Management domain.
  • Design, implement, and validate Fault Management and System Autonomy flight software using flight‑like simulations and flight hardware.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's of Science in a technical field with 2+ years of relevant experience, or Master’s of Science in a technical field.
  • Active TS/SCI clearance at time of application.
  • Experience in Systems Engineering for mission‑critical applications.
  • Experience with mission and/or vehicle systems engineering.
  • Software coding or scripting experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Failure analysis or fault‑management technical experience.
  • Experience with Systems Engineering process.
  • Defining requirements and interfaces.
  • Understanding of spacecraft integration & test, launch, and mission operations.
  • Experience with human spaceflight vehicle development, integration & test.
  • Experience developing verification documentation.
  • Experience with architecture development.
  • Familiarity with electrical & computer systems.
  • Familiarity with command and telemetry databases.
  • Strong VBA, Python, and MATLAB scripting skills.
Benefits

Primary level salary range: $91,800.00 – $137,600.00 (subject to factors such as scope, responsibilities, experience, education, skills, and market conditions). Employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, discretionary bonuses, and, for certain positions, long‑term incentives.
