Job summary

City and County of Denver is hiring two full-time, unlimited Engineer Supervisors - Transportation Delivery. The role operates in a hybrid model, with field and on-site work three days per week at the Wellington E. Webb Building in Denver, CO.

The department delivers complex transportation infrastructure projects and requires strong leadership and collaboration across teams. The engineer supervisor will lead planning, design, procurement, construction and project closeout, ensuring safety,

Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise a multidisciplinary team of engineers and project managers delivering complex transportation projects.
  • Provide technical, operational, and strategic direction for planning, design, procurement, construction and closeout.
  • Manage staff workload, performance, development, and resource allocation to meet goals.
  • Oversee scope, schedule, budget, risk, quality, and compliance with city, state and federal requirements.
  • Provide quality assurance and technical oversight of designs, documents, packages and consultant deliverables.
  • Coordinate with consultants, contractors, internal departments, utilities, agencies and stakeholders.
  • Develop and implement engineering standards, policies and procedures to improve delivery.
  • Manage transportation program budgets and funding allocations.
  • Analyze project data to establish performance measures and support data-driven decisions.
  • Represent DOTI on high-profile projects and coordinate with community stakeholders and officials.
  • Mentor staff and foster a collaborative, continuous-improvement culture.

The City and County of Denver offers a competitive salary commensurate with education and experience. The starting hiring range for this position is $124,937.00 - $161,000.00/year. We also offer generous benefits for full-time employees which include but are not limited to:

Location & Schedule

The City and County of Denver supports a hybrid workplace model. Employees work where needed, at a job site several days a week and off‑site in the field, as needed. Employees must work within the state of Colorado on their remote days.

In this position you can expect to work out in the field or on‑site, three (3) days a week at: Wellington E. Webb Building - 201 W Colfax Ave., Denver, CO 80202.

The Office of Transportation is responsible for the implementation, planning, and safety aspects of all transportation projects and services. This office supports the delivery of the Safe Routes to School and Vision Zero programs across the city to eliminate transit infrastructure inequalities.

We are hiring for two full-time, unlimited Engineer Supervisors - Transportation Delivery.

Specifically, as the Engineer Supervisor, you will:
  • Lead and supervise a multidisciplinary team of engineers and project managers responsible for the delivery of complex transportation infrastructure projects and programs. There will be around five to seven Engineers and Project Managers for both design and construction.
  • Provide technical, operational, and strategic direction for transportation planning, design, procurement, construction, and project closeout.
  • Manage staff workload, performance, professional development, and resource allocation to achieve organizational goals and deliver high-quality projects.
  • Oversee project scope, schedule, budget, risk, quality, and compliance with City, state, and federal requirements.
  • Provide quality assurance and technical oversight of engineering designs, construction documents, procurement packages, and consultant deliverables.
  • Manage and coordinate consultants, contractors, internal departments, utilities, regional agencies, and other project stakeholders.
  • Develop and implement engineering standards, policies, procedures, and process improvements to improve project delivery and operational efficiency.
  • Manage transportation program budgets, funding allocations, and resource needs to support annual and long-term priorities.
  • Analyze project and program data to establish performance measures, identify trends, and support data‑driven decision‑making.
  • Represent the Department of Transportation and Infrastructure on complex and high‑profile projects, including coordination with community stakeholders, elected officials, partner agencies, and the public.
  • Resolve complex technical, operational, contractual, and stakeholder issues while balancing safety, equity, mobility, cost, schedule, and community needs.
  • Mentor and develop engineering and project management staff while fostering a collaborative, accountable, and continuous‑improvement culture.
  • Project Management responsibilities, as needed.
  • Assist as needed with agency project deadlines and reports with a team‑based approach.
