Core Responsibilities Include:
  • Teamwork and Customer Service: Demonstrate customer service and work habits reflecting VDOT values, coordinate information flow orally and in writing.
  • Analysis and Technical Reporting: Analyze engineering data, prepare clear reports and recommendations.
  • Technical Guidance and Support: Provide technical guidance on bridge construction issues, develop recommendations, document occurrences, participate in meetings.
  • Manage Assigned Activities: Plan, schedule, and coordinate engineering activities to meet scope and timelines.
  • Design, Analyze, and Check Structural Elements: Prepare bridge and structure designs, check structural plans, investigate existing structures, analyze load capacity.
  • Engineering Process Management: Use VDOT policies and procedures, ensure compliance with laws and regulations.
  • Communication: Establish effective communication with stakeholders, investigate issues, resolve complaints.
  • Project Engineering: Assist in project management, develop scope, schedule, budget, manage multiple tasks, report status.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Estimate material quantities and costs.
  • Proficient in engineering and design software.
  • Experience in structural steel, concrete design, soil mechanics.
  • Ability to produce structural plans and notes.
  • Knowledge of AASHTO and LRFD standards.
  • Understanding of civil engineering principles related to structures.
  • Review and administer design contracts.
  • Interpret construction plans and specifications.
  • Develop solutions from analysis, make decisions, manage multiple assignments.
Additional Considerations
  • Experience in bridge and structure design and analysis.
  • Training, experience, or education in Civil Engineering or related field.
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
  • Experience with AASHTO LRFD specifications.
