Job summary

General Dynamics Electric Boat seeks an experienced Welding & NDT Engineering–Suppliers and Strategic Sourcing professional to support onboarding of a new supplier on-site in Connecticut. You will help qualify welding procedures, review procedures, and guide the development of quality processes for the supplier’s welding program, while maintaining our standards and driving process improvements.

You will interact with SUPSHIP/NAVSEA customers, provide technical guidance on construction

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science degree or higher in engineering.
• 5+ years of post graduate related engineering experience.
• Degree in Materials Science or Welding Engineering (preferred).
• Three or more years of engineering experience in aerospace, defense, heavy fabrication or shipbuilding applications (preferred).
• Ability to read and understand component specifications, military specifications and engineering drawings.
• Experience with the development and qualification of weld procedures.

Responsibilities

• Provide dedicated on-site support to supplier developing NAVSEA Technical Publication welding program.
• Support supplier in qualifying new welding procedures
• Review and approve supplier welding procedures
• Offer insight and guidance in the development of quality procedures that support welding program
• Provide direct oversight and continued assessment of supplier weld program performance
• Provide technical guidance and expertise with respect to construction support, problem resolution and corrective actions for welding performed by supplier
• Maintain company standards, procedures, best practices, and process improvements in the field of welding

Required

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science degree or higher in engineering
• 5+ years of post graduate related engineering experience

Preferred

• Degree in Materials Science or Welding Engineering
• Three or more years of engineering experience in aerospace, defense, heavy fabrication or shipbuilding applications
• The ability to read and understand component specifications, military specifications and engineering drawings
• Experience working with basic arc welding processes and an understanding of the fundamentals of welding metallurgy
• Experience with the development and qualification of weld procedures
