Job summary

XPO is seeking an Engineer, Software Engineering in Portland, OR to design, develop and unit test software that meets business requirements. You’ll collaborate with architects, other engineers, project managers and operations to deliver quality solutions and participate in code reviews.

The role requires a Bachelor’s degree in CS/IT, 1+ years of Android development, and proficiency with C#, Xamarin/Maui, or React Native, Visual Studio/VS Code, REST APIs, SQL and distributed data services.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience in CS/IT or related field.
• 1 year of software solutions development experience in medium to large environments.
• 1+ years of Android app development required.
• Proficient with C#, Xamarin/Maui, or React Native.
• Experience with Visual Studio and VS Code.
• Experience with REST APIs and messaging buses.
• Experience with SQL databases (SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL).
• Experience with data formats (JSON, HTML, XML).
• Experience with agile development and software design patterns.
• Experience with messaging frameworks and production support.

What you’ll need to succeed as an Engineer, Software Engineering at XPO

• Bachelor’s degree degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or related field or equivalent work or military experience
• 1 year of experience in software solutions development preferably in medium to large corporate environments or commercial software companies
• 1+ years of mobile Android application development required
• Proficient knowledge of at least one of the following: C#, Xamarin/Maui, React Native
• Experience with the industry standard IDEs – Visual Studio & VS Code
• Experience with creating and consuming distributed data services (REST APIs, Messaging Buses)
• Experience with SQL and relational databases (SQL server, Oracle, MySQL)
• Experience with data marshalling, data transformation, and data representation technologies (Model entities, JSON, HTML, XML, Stylesheets).
• Experience with rapid programming, agile development, software patterning, and refactoring techniques
• Experience with process communication techniques (shared memory, message queues, data streams, semaphores).
• Experience with TeamCity, GIT and Enterprise Git Hub
• Experience with asynchronous messaging frameworks for application integration. Google Firebase preferred.
• Experience in production support activities by monitoring and troubleshooting production issues.

Preferred qualifications

• Strong written and verbal communication skills in technical settings and with internal management. Well-developed active listening and presentation skills.
• Solid knowledge of IT software development life cycle methodologies and processes, including usage of source control tools
• Logistics industry experience.
• Experience with multithreaded application design

What you’ll do on a typical day

• Design, develop and unit test new software by applying techniques of computer science, engineering, and mathematical analysis that satisfies the objectives stated in business requirements. Follow industry best practices, techniques and XPO standardized processes that deliver quality software solutions. Be available for testing/support on scheduled deployment dates that are designated by the standardized change management process
• Collaborate with architects, other systems engineers, project managers, systems administrators, and operations analysts to design, code review, troubleshoot and implement solutions
• Evaluate and select process and logic patterns, programming language constructs, data storage methods, and operating environment interfaces that effectively satisfy business requirements and quantifiable measures; develop appropriate programs and systems documentation according to established department standards
• Evaluate new technologies for inclusion in developed software solutions; introduce new industry standards and techniques that deliver improved software solutions
