Job summary

XPO is seeking an Engineer, Software Engineering to design, develop and test software in a collaborative, fast-paced environment in Portland. The role emphasizes modern technologies, REST APIs, and data services, with opportunities to contribute to production support and deployment activities.

The ideal candidate will bring a BS in CS or related field, 1+ years Android development, experience with C#, Xamarin/Maui or React Native, and familiarity with Visual Studio/VS Code, REST, SQL, JSON/XML.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or related field or equivalent work or military experience
• 1 year of software solutions development experience
• 1+ years of mobile Android application development
• Proficient knowledge of C#, Xamarin/Maui, or React Native
• Experience with Visual Studio & VS Code
• Experience with REST APIs, Messaging Buses
• Experience with SQL databases (SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL)
• Experience with data formats (JSON, HTML, XML)
• Experience with agile development, refactoring techniques
• Experience with inter-process communication (shared memory, message queues, data streams, semaphores)
• Experience with TeamCity, Git and Enterprise Git Hub
• Experience with asynchronous messaging frameworks; Google Firebase preferred
• Experience in production support activities

Responsibilities

• Design, develop and unit test software applying CS/engineering methods and business requirements; follow best practices and change management processes
• Collaborate with architects, systems engineers, project managers and operations analysts to design, code review, troubleshoot and implement solutions
• Evaluate patterns, data storage methods and interfaces; develop documentation per standards
• Evaluate new technologies and introduce industry standards to improve software solutions

• Bachelor’s degree degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or related field or equivalent work or military experience
• 1 year of experience in software solutions development preferably in medium to large corporate environments or commercial software companies
• 1+ years of mobile Android application development required
• Proficient knowledge of at least one of the following: C#, Xamarin/Maui, React Native
• Experience with the industry standard IDEs – Visual Studio & VS Code
• Experience with creating and consuming distributed data services (REST APIs, Messaging Buses)
• Experience with SQL and relational databases (SQL server, Oracle, MySQL)
• Experience with data marshalling, data transformation, and data representation technologies (Model entities, JSON, HTML, XML, Stylesheets).
• Experience with rapid programming, agile development, software patterning, and refactoring techniques
• Experience with process communication techniques (shared memory, message queues, data streams, semaphores).
• Experience with TeamCity, GIT and Enterprise Git Hub
• Experience with asynchronous messaging frameworks for application integration. Google Firebase preferred.
• Experience in production support activities by monitoring and troubleshooting production issues.

Preferred qualifications:

• Strong written and verbal communication skills in technical settings and with internal management. Well-developed active listening and presentation skills.
• Solid knowledge of IT software development life cycle methodologies and processes, including usage of source control tools
• Logistics industry experience.
• Experience with multithreaded application design

Follow industry best practices, techniques and XPO standardized processes that deliver quality software solutions. Be available for testing/support on scheduled deployment dates that are designated by the standardized change management process
• Collaborate with architects, other systems engineers, project managers, systems administrators, and operations analysts to design, code review, troubleshoot and implement solutions
• Evaluate and select process and logic patterns, programming language constructs, data storage methods, and operating environment interfaces that effectively satisfy business requirements and quantifiable measures; develop appropriate programs and systems documentation according to established department standards
• Evaluate new technologies for inclusion in developed software solutions; introduce new industry standards and techniques that deliver improved software solutions
