Job summary

Naval Nuclear Laboratory is seeking an experienced engineer to support the Shipping Containers Conversions unit. You will develop deep technical knowledge of the equipment, systems, and requirements involved in our conversion work, providing strong engineering support for ongoing projects.

The role emphasizes collaboration with multidisciplinary teams to move projects forward safely and efficiently, with a focus on technical excellence in a unique engineering environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a technical, engineering or science field with 2+ years of relevant experience, or Master's with 1 year, or current Intermediate Reactor Training Engineer/Refueling Engineer at the Company.

Responsibilities

  • Provide engineering support for ongoing projects within the Shipping Containers Conversions unit.
  • Develop and maintain deep technical knowledge of equipment, systems and requirements involved in conversion work.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure projects progress safely, efficiently and with technical excellence.
  • Contribute to high-impact work supporting naval nuclear propulsion programs.

Job Description

Our Shipping Containers Conversions unit is seeking a driven and experienced Engineer to play a key role in advancing our product work. This is an exciting opportunity to join a team that supports highly specialized engineering activities central to the mission of the Naval Nuclear Laboratory.

In this role, you will develop and maintain deep technical knowledge that enables you to provide strong engineering support for ongoing projects. You'll become a subject matter expert on the equipment, systems, and technical requirements involved in our conversion work, helping ensure projects move forward safely, efficiently, and with technical excellence.

The ideal candidate brings a strong foundation in radiological practices, an understanding of equipment fabrication processes, and experience managing technical project work. Required Combination of Knowledge and Skill

Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in a related technical, engineering or science field and a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience; or Masters degree from an accredited college or university in a related technical, engineering or science field and a minimum of 1 year of relevant experience; or Currently an Intermediate Reactor Training Engineer, Refueling Engineer, or Field (RPCO) Engineer at the Company.

Pay Range

$78,700.00 - $120,500.00 annually

Salary information provided is a general guideline only. Annual salary is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.

The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is operated for the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) by Fluor Marine Propulsion, LLC (FMP), a wholly owned subsidiary of Fluor Corporation. Naval Nuclear Laboratory personnel are FMP employees who work at four DOE facilities: Bettis Atomic Power Laboratory, Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory, Kenneth A. Kesselring Site, and Naval Reactors Facility, and at the U.S. Department of Defense-owned Nuclear Power Training Unit-Charleston. FMP employees also have an established presence at numerous shipyards, satellite, and vendor locations.

For more than 75 years, the Naval Nuclear Laboratory has developed advanced nuclear propulsion technology, provided technical support, and trained world-class nuclear operators to ensure the safe and reliable operation of our nation's submarine and aircraft carrier fleets. The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is a national asset solely dedicated to the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program.
