The City of Charlotte is seeking an experienced Senior Water Distribution Engineer to lead hydraulic modeling, CIP planning, and regulatory reporting for the Charlotte Water Department. You will supervise technical staff and develop GIS-based tools, ensuring compliance with federal and state rules while coordinating with city stakeholders.
The ideal candidate has a PE license, a bachelor’s in engineering, and at least five years of related municipal water experience.

This position will be responsible for performing engineering analyses on water distribution systems, development and operation of hydraulic models, master planning studies, participating in utility-wide continuous improvement projects, identification of infrastructure needs for the Capital Investment Plan (CIP), and completing regulatory reporting. Work performed is of an advanced level and capacity. This position requires a high degree of internal/external consultation on internal and external projects and operates as a subject matter expert in the area of water distribution systems’ operation, assessments and modeling.
The salary for this position is $100,746 - $111,939 commensurate with experience
The work is light work and requires applying 10 pounds of force frequently exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally to move objects. Additionally, the following physical abilities are required: feeling, perceiving sounds at normal speaking levels, discriminating among sounds, mental acuity, speaking, standing, talking, visual acuity in data/color/observations/equipment/ inspections, and walking.
Work is performed in a dynamic environment that requires sensitivity to change and responsiveness to changing goals, priorities, and needs. Requires occasional on-call emergency work.
