Job summary

Blue Origin is seeking a Quality Engineer to join the Operations team, supporting Integrated Supply Chain, Test Operations, Safety, Quality, and Mission Assurance across facilities.

The role emphasizes developing and maintaining AS9100/ISO9000 compliant quality systems, conducting audits, and driving continuous improvement with cross-functional teams. On-site schedule typically Mon-Fri, with overtime as needed.

Qualifications

  • B.S. in Engineering/Science with 5+ years in quality engineering in production.
  • Familiarity with AS9100 or ISO 9000 quality systems.
  • Ability to support manufacturing schedules (A-Shift; Mon - Fri; 8am – 5pm) and overtime.

Job description

This role is part of Blue Origin Operations, which is comprised of Integrated Supply Chain, Test Operations, Safety, Quality, and Mission Assurance. This includes Manufacturing and Supply Chain support across all Blue Origin facilities.

Qualifications
  • Minimum of a B.S. in Engineering/Science 5+ years’ proven experience in a Quality Engineer role in a production environment.
  • Familiarity with AS9100 or ISO9000 QM System and/or related quality systems and programs.
  • Ability to support manufacturing schedules (A-Shift; Mon - Fri; 8am – 5pm) and overtime on as needed basis.
Desired
  • 5+ years of quality engineering experience supporting CNC machining, precision manufacturing, or aerospace machine-shop operations.
  • Aerospace, space launch, defense, or commercial aviation manufacturing experience highly preferred.
  • Strong working knowledge of CNC machining processes, including milling, turning, drilling, grinding, and related special processes.
  • Experience developing and maintaining inspection plans, in-process inspection requirements, sampling plans, control plans, and acceptance criteria for machined components.
  • Proficiency in engineering drawing interpretation and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) in accordance with ASME Y14.5.
  • Experience selecting and applying appropriate inspection methods and metrology equipment, including CMMs, optical measurement systems, height gauges, micrometers, calipers, surface-finish equipment, and functional gauging.
  • Experience conducting first article inspections (FAI) and preparing documentation in accordance with AS9102 or equivalent requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to investigate machining defects and process variation using root cause analysis and corrective action methodologies such as 5 Whys, fishbone analysis, 8D, and DMAIC.
  • Experience resolving machining‑related quality issues, including dimensional nonconformances, tolerance stack‑up concerns, tool wear, part distortion, surface‑finish defects, and process capability issues.
  • Ability to participate in design and manufacturing reviews to assess inspectability, producibility, datum structures, tolerance schemes, and manufacturing risk.
  • Experience reviewing and approving nonconformance records, dispositions, corrective actions, and supplier or internal manufacturing escapes.
  • Working knowledge of process capability and quality performance analysis, including Cp, Cpk, trend analysis, statistical process control, and first-pass yield.
  • Familiarity with APQP, PFMEA, control plans, Lean manufacturing, and Six Sigma principles.
  • Experience conducting Quality Management System and manufacturing process audits; knowledge of AS9100 requirements preferred.
  • ASQ Certified Quality Engineer certification preferred.
  • Six Sigma Green Belt, Black Belt, or comparable certification preferred.
Key Responsibilities
  • Develop, implement, and maintain quality systems, processes, and procedures in compliance with AS9100, ISO9000, and other relevant standards.
  • Conduct quality audits and inspections to ensure adherence to quality standards and identify areas for improvement.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve quality issues and implement corrective and preventive actions.
  • Support manufacturing operations by providing quality expertise and ensuring products meet customer requirements.
  • Analyze quality data and trends to drive continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Train and mentor team members on quality practices and procedures.
  • Participate in new product development projects to ensure quality is integrated from the outset.
  • Maintain documentation and records in accordance with quality system requirements.
  • Other activities as assigned.
