Job summary

Daxton Hotel in Birmingham, MI is seeking a skilled Engineer to maintain and repair hotel facilities. You will engage with electrical, HVAC and plumbing systems, oversee routine maintenance, and ensure guest spaces are well-kept and safe.

Strong team collaboration and initiative are essential. The role requires 2+ years of maintenance experience, ability to lift up to 50 lbs, and flexibility to work varied shifts including weekends and holidays.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in building maintenance or hotel engineering preferred
  • Knowledge of refrigeration systems, electricity, HVAC, and plumbing; certifications are a plus
  • Proficiency in English reading, writing and verbal communication
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk for extended periods; lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work independently and maintain personal accountability
  • Flexibility to work varied shifts including days, nights, weekends, and holidays

Responsibilities

  • Maintain good working relationships with associates and foster teamwork
  • Maintain equipment, systems and building components including mechanical, electrical, HVAC, refrigeration, plumbing, locks and furnishings
  • Perform routine maintenance, repairs and cleanliness in guest rooms, public spaces, event space, back of house areas and grounds
  • Follow hotel safety systems and take corrective action on maintenance issues affecting safety or operation
  • Participate in room preventative maintenance program
  • Detect equipment malfunctions and communicate issues to supervisors or maintenance staff
  • Repair and maintain the physical structure and furnishings as needed
  • Adhere to departmental policies and participate in training and meetings
  • Transport heavy boxes and packages within the hotel for maintenance and repairs
  • Assist in delivery and setup of new equipment (televisions, mattresses, tables, chairs, etc.)
  • Coordinate with Chief Operating Engineer on projects and priorities
  • Respond to guest requests in a timely manner

ENGINEER/Reports to: Chief Operating Engineer, position is Non-Exempt

WHAT YOU WILL NEED
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in building maintenance; previous experience as a hotel engineer preferred or comparable experience at an establishment such as apartment complex or office building
  • Basic knowledge of refrigeration systems, electricity, HVAC, and plumbing, certifications are a plus
  • Proficiency of the English language in reading, writing and verbal communication
  • Ability to sit, stand and walk for extended periods, bend, climb stairs and lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work by yourself, lead yourself, make it count!
  • Ability to work varied shifts, that may include days, nights, weekends, and holidays
WHAT YOU WILL DO
  • Maintain a good working relationship with other associates by promoting teamwork and fostering a harmonious working environment
  • Responsibilities include maintaining all equipment, systems and building components including, but not limited to, mechanical and electrical systems, pumps, HVAC, refrigeration, plumbing, locks, furniture, paint, wall coverings, tile, and other equipment
  • Handle routine maintenance, repairs and cleanliness in guest rooms, public spaces, event space, outlets, back of house spaces and grounds
  • Demonstrate familiarity with the hotel’s safety systems and takes corrective action on any maintenance or operating problems which affect the security or operating condition of the hotel
  • Participate in the room preventative maintenance program
  • Use your skills and intuition to detect equipment malfunction and discusses machine operation variations with supervisors or other maintenance workers to diagnose problem or repair
  • Repair and maintain physical structure of establishment and furnishings as needed
  • Maintain complete knowledge of and comply with all departmental policies/service procedures/standards; Participate in all scheduled training classes and meetings
  • Transport heavy boxes and packages within the hotel for maintenance and repairs
  • Assist in delivery and setup of all new equipment such as televisions, mattresses, tables, chairs, etc.
  • Communicate with Chief Operating Engineer on projects as assigned
  • Respond to all guest requests
