Job summary

EVgo is seeking an Engineer, Project Development to produce engineering deliverables and manage project coordination for fast-charging infrastructure projects through development, from site feasibility through permitting and construction.

The role requires knowledge of electrical systems, utility requirements, and permitting processes, coordinating with external engineering partners and internal teams to meet schedule and quality standards.

Qualifications

  • Typically requires a Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 2 years of related experience; or an advanced degree without experience; or equivalent work experience.

Position Summary

The Engineer, Project Development produces engineering deliverables and manages project coordination for EVgo fast-charging infrastructure projects through the development phase, from site feasibility through permitting and construction. This role applies professional knowledge of electrical systems, utility requirements, and permitting processes to advance a portfolio of simultaneous projects on schedule and to EVgo's quality standards, while building relationships with external engineering partners and internal cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

Engineering Deliverables & Site Design:

  • Produce development engineering deliverables including conceptual site layouts, single-line diagrams, permitting packages, and project cost estimates for a portfolio of charging infrastructure projects.
  • Review engineering documents for quality, code compliance, and consistency with EVgo design standards from proposal through detailed engineering.
  • Read, interpret, and redline electrical drawings, utility design packages, zoning documents, and construction drawings.
  • Scope and track deliverables from external engineering partners including site surveys and preliminary and permit-package engineering submittals.

Permitting & Regulatory Coordination:

  • Research AHJ and utility requirements for assigned project regions; compile findings to inform design approaches.
  • Support permitting staff with preparation of materials for zoning and permitting agency interactions.
  • Track status of permit applications and approval milestones across an assigned project portfolio.

Project Coordination & Reporting:

  • Maintain pipeline reporting for projects in the development engineering phase; provide regular status updates on deliverable progress and lead times.
  • Track productivity metrics for work-in-progress and communicate updates to the supervising engineer or manager.
  • Use Salesforce, Sitetracker, or equivalent platforms to manage project data and support reporting functions.

Standards & Process Improvement:

  • Execute standardized design and construction logistics approaches; identify opportunities to improve efficiency and flag suggestions to the team.
  • Participate in technology evaluation reviews for integration into current or future projects.
  • Document lessons learned and contribute to the continuous improvement of engineering templates and best practices.

Stakeholder & Cross-Functional Coordination:

  • Coordinate with Site Development, Grid Integration, and external partners to ensure engineering deliverables meet project requirements.
  • Provide design support to general contractors and other stakeholders during development and early construction phases.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned to support team and organizational objectives.

Qualifications

  • Typically requires a Bachelors degree and a minimum of 2 years of related experience; or an advanced degree without experience; or equivalent work experience.

Desired Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
  • Experience in utility, renewable energy (commercial solar, energy storage), or high-voltage engineering.
  • EIT or progress toward a Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Experience with Salesforce, Sitetracker, or similar project management platforms.
  • Knowledge of NEC, local building codes, and standard electrical distribution requirements.
  • Equivalent technical education or training in a related field accepted in lieu of a formal degree.
  • Working knowledge of electrical systems, construction drawings, and site design processes.
  • Proficiency with CAD tools such as AutoCAD, Bluebeam, SketchUp, or Google Earth.
  • Familiarity with utility interconnection processes and AHJ and permitting requirements.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple concurrent projects and deadlines.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills for internal and external coordination.
  • Occasional travel may be required for team or cross-functional meetings.
