Company Overview

Northrop Grumman offers employees opportunities to work on revolutionary systems that impact people’s lives worldwide. The company is a leading global security firm with a strong culture of innovation and inclusion. Approximately 20% of its 100,000 employees are veterans or reservists. The Northrop Grumman SkillBridge Program, approved under Department of Defense Instruction 1322.29, provides service members with civilian work experience during the last six months of service.

SkillBridge Program

Participants serve on site with their host company, gaining experience in entry to mid‑level career paths. The job training is equivalent to a 40‑hour work week. The program offers hands‑on experience that can lead to full‑time opportunities at Northrop Grumman. Eligibility: at least 180 days of active duty, within 12 months of separation, honorable discharge, TAPS/TGPS service, ethics brief attendance, and written authorization from a unit commander.

Job Responsibilities
  • Design, model, and verify RF/microwave and mixed‑signal assemblies and subsystems.
  • Utilize analysis, simulations, and prototyping to develop antenna and signal conversion designs.
  • Derive and trade requirements with components, assembly, and subsystem engineers.
  • Perform electromagnetic simulation of component, assembly, and subsystem level performance.
  • Manage RF budgets, frequency planning, and common assembly level interfaces.
  • Predict assembly level performance by selecting materials, components, packaging approaches, RF chain analysis, simulation, data collection, and analysis, and other modeling techniques.
  • Develop custom RF integrated circuit designs to meet assembly and subsystem level requirements.
  • Collaborate with peer functions such as Mechanical, Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain, and Test.
  • Utilize world‑class manufacturing capabilities on‑site and within the broader company for prototyping through full‑rate production from the foundry level to microelectronic packaging to printed circuit board fabrication and assembly to subsystem level integration and test.
  • Work directly with external supplier partners including domestic foundries, PCB fabricators, assemblers, component manufacturers, material fabricators, and more.
  • Support products throughout the product life cycle (EMD, production, sustainment, DMS).
  • Handle RF and mixed‑signal assembly products such as antenna radiators, circulators, device interposers, filters, manifolds, receiver/exciter assemblies, signal conditioning assemblies, signal generators, transmit/receive assemblies.
  • Manage RF and mixed‑signal subsystem products including antenna and receiver/exciter subsystems.
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or related STEM field; 2 years of RF/microwave experience, or Master’s degree with no RF/microwave experience (or 4 years of experience can substitute for a degree).
  • U.S. citizenship required.
  • Interim Secret Clearance prior to start.
  • Ability to use and apply technical standards, principles, theories, concepts, and techniques to RF/microwave design and test problems of moderate complexity.
  • Proficiency in RF/microwave disciplines such as components, assemblies, subsystems, requirements development, EM and related modeling & simulation, RF test verification, production test support, and design for producibility.
  • Entry‑level proficiency with industry‑standard RF/microwave modeling, simulation, and PCB design tools (ANSYS HFSS/Maxwell, CST Microwave, Eagleware/Genesys, Keysight ADS, Xpedition, Altium, FEKO, TICRA).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Top Secret / SCI security clearance.
  • Master’s or PhD with 3–5 years of RF/microwave experience.
  • Intermediate to expert proficiency with the aforementioned tools.
  • Proven knowledge of electrical engineering, design software, and equipment.
