Job summary

Houston-Engineering,-Inc is seeking a structural engineer who mentors other engineers while delivering practical, impactful projects for communities. Our engineers work on bridges, hydraulics, and grade separation projects with public safety and quality as priorities.

The role includes leading design with CAD designers, performing analyses, coordinating with disciplines, managing contract administration, and mentoring junior staff to build a strong, capable team that serves clients reliably.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field is required.
• Minimum of 4 years of experience in design and construction of structures.
• ND Professional Engineer license or the ability to obtain within 6 months is required.
• Experience with CAD design collaboration is preferred.
• Strong leadership and project management skills and knowledge of codes.

Responsibilities

• Prepare detailed engineering analyses, schedules, and technical reports.
• Design structural projects together with CAD designers.
• Attend meetings and coordinate with other civil disciplines and external consultants.
• Manage contract administration, including writing, change requests, invoices, and budgets.
• Perform in-service safety inspections and load ratings of existing bridges.
• Mentor and oversee the work of junior structural engineers.

What Projects Would I work on?

Structural engineering projects range from complex grade separation projects and large bridges spanning a river with architectural enhancements to box culverts for a rural township over a small ditch. The structural engineers have also designed a variety of hydraulic structures such as dams, floodwalls, gate wells, and some of the most complex lift stations in the region!

Job Description

• Prepare detailed engineering analyses, schedules, technical reports, etc.
• Design structural engineering projects together with CAD designers.
• Attend meetings and communicate with other civil engineering disciplines and outside consultants or agencies, to advance structural projects from conceptual level to final design.
• Manage all aspects of contract administration which includes writing, change requests, invoices, and progress payments and maintain project budget and costs.
• Perform in-service safety inspections and load ratings of existing bridges.
• Mentor and oversee the work of less experienced structural engineer team members.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Agricultural and Biological Systems Engineering, Bioproducts and Biosystem Engineering, or related Engineering field.
• Minimum of 4 years of experience in the design and construction of structures.
• ND Professional Engineer license or the ability to obtain the license within 6 months required.
• Experience operating MicroStation OpenRoads preferred (but not required).
• Strong leadership and project management skills.
• Working knowledge of project team roles and responsibilities.
• Working knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local codes.
