Job summary

Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems is seeking an Engineer or Principal Engineer Guidance & Navigation Control for the MQ-4C Triton Program in Rancho Bernardo, CA. Role involves G&C tasks for UAV, including non-linear simulations, MATLAB analysis, embedded flight control software, and flight test support. The candidate may be filled at Engineer or Principal Engineer level.

Requires ability to obtain a U.S. Government clearance (Secret) and strong Matlab/C++/Python skills.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s in STEM and at least 2 years of experience, or a Master’s in STEM with no years.
  • Bachelor’s in STEM with at least 5 years of experience, or a Master’s with 3 years, or a Ph.D. with no experience.
  • Proficient in MATLAB and Simulink.
  • Knowledge of C/C++ and Python.
  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government clearance and SAP within a reasonable time.

Responsibilities

  • Perform non-linear 6DOF Simulation analysis (stress testing, trade studies, mission analysis).
  • Perform linear MATLAB analysis (gain/phase margin, gain/filter determinations).
  • Design/code/test embedded flight control software.
  • Support flight testing (pre-flight predictions, real-time support, post-flight analysis).
  • Develop or improve G&C methods to stay at state-of-the-art.

Candidate

Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems MQ-4C Triton Program seeks an Engineer or Principal Engineer Guidance Navigation Control to support the VMS team in Rancho Bernardo, CA. This position can be filled at either the Engineer or Principal Engineer level. The candidate will perform various Guidance & Control (G&C) tasks for the Triton Unmanned Air Vehicle (UAV) Program. These activities include non-linear 6DOF Simulation analysis (including stress testing, trade studies, mission analysis, etc.), linear MATLAB analysis (gain/phase margin determination, gain/filter determination, etc.), embedded flight control software design/code/test, and supporting flight testing (pre‑flight predictions, real‑time support, post‑flight analysis, parameter identification, etc.). The candidate will keep abreast of or develop new or improved G&C methods or processes in order to maintain current state‑of‑the‑art tools for the department. He/she may be called upon to support proposal preparation efforts and new project activities, including technical, cost, and schedule.

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s in Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM) and at least 2 years of experience, or a Master’s Degree in STEM with no years of experience.
  • Bachelor’s in Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM) and at least 5 years of experience, or a Master’s Degree in STEM with 3 years of experience, or a Ph.D. degree with no experience.
  • Proficient in Matlab and Simulink.
  • Knowledge of C/C++ and Python.
  • Knowledge of flight sciences, control law development, or control system analysis.
  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government clearance and SAP within a reasonable amount of time as determined by business needs.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Excellent communication, analysis and problem‑solving skills.
  • Ability to work in a multi‑disciplinary team environment.
  • Clearance Level: Secret (S) or ability to obtain a Secret.
  • Proficient in C/C++.
  • UAVs: Some experience.
  • Flight Test: Some experience.
Salary and Benefits

Primary Level Salary Range: $91,800.00 – $137,600.00. Secondary Level Salary Range: $114,000.00 – $171,000.00. The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate’s experience, education, skills and current market conditions. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for long‑term incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, company‑paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
