Northrop Grumman seeks an experienced Mission Assurance Engineer with a strong emphasis on Risk and Opportunity Management to drive operational excellence for the Ammunition Operating Unit program portfolio.

The position is on-site at Plymouth, MN, with 10% travel. Confidential clearance is required and U.S. citizenship is required for government‑linked roles. Salary ranges from $108,800 to $203,600 depending on level and experience.

Responsibilities

• Performs or assures quality, risk management, safety, reliability and maintainability of program achievements, subcontractors and suppliers in accordance with contractual requirements.
• Defines and monitors mission assurance program specifications and processes to ensure mission success.
• Drives culture change toward more proactive risk mitigation, data‑driven decision making, and continuous improvement.
• Supports Return to Green, Failure Analysis and Corrective Action activities as an independent resource focused on full resolution and future risk mitigation.
• Works cross‑functionally to identify and prioritize problems, create initiatives for business, operational, technical and administrative process improvements to reduce waste and improve process efficiency.
• Assesses program performance and risks, determines resources required for mission assurance and program excellence.
• Assists in defining, planning, organizing, directing and controlling risk and opportunity management efforts.
• Evaluates and approves risk and opportunity handling approaches, mitigation plans and opportunity exploitation plans.
• Organizes and conducts meetings to facilitate communication and execution of the risk and opportunity management process.
• Informs and advises higher‑level management on critical project risks and mitigations.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications (Level 3)

• Bachelor’s degree in STEM discipline + 5 years of experience; Master’s degree + 3 years; PhD + 1 year.
• Experience in Risk Management processes and toolsets.
• Strong analytical, organizational and reporting skills.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and advanced Excel skills.
• Experience conducting root cause and corrective action investigations.
• Experience supporting continuous improvement initiatives and projects.
• Experience presenting to upper‑level management.

Senior Principal Engineer (Level 4)

• Bachelor’s degree in STEM discipline + 8 years of experience; Master’s degree + 6 years; PhD + 4 years.
• Experience in Risk Management processes and toolsets.
• Strong analytical, organizational and reporting skills.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and advanced Excel skills.
• Experience conducting root cause and corrective action investigations.
• Experience supporting continuous improvement initiatives and projects.
• Experience presenting to upper‑level management.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in Business Management or Program Management.
• Experience with audits and compliance.
• PMP certification.
• Background in leading teams.
• Program or Project Management experience.
• Certified in Lean, Agile and/or Six Sigma.

Salary Range

Primary Level: $108,800.00 - $163,200.00
Secondary Level: $135,800.00 - $203,600.00
