Job summary

Qualifications

Salary Range: $75,000.00 - $80,000.00 Salary/year

The Engineering Manager is responsible for the day-to-day leadership and operation of the Engineering department, ensuring the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of all hotel facilities. This position oversees preventive maintenance, repairs, building systems, equipment, vendor coordination, and compliance with applicable safety and regulatory requirements. The Engineering Manager works closely with hotel leadership and other departments to maintain the property's physical assets, support operational excellence, and ensure a safe, comfortable, and well-maintained environment for guests and associates.

Qualifications
  • Provide leadership, direction, and development for the Engineering team.
  • Oversee the daily operations of the Engineering department, ensuring maintenance requests, repairs, and preventative maintenance are completed efficiently and to established standards.
  • Maintain all building systems, equipment, and facilities to ensure a safe, comfortable, and well-maintained environment for guests and associates.
  • Oversee preventive maintenance programs for guest rooms, public areas, mechanical systems, kitchens, laundry facilities, pools, and other hotel amenities.
  • Inspect the property regularly to identify maintenance needs, safety concerns, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Respond to and prioritize maintenance emergencies and operational issues to minimize disruption to guests and hotel operations.
  • Coordinate repairs and maintenance projects with hotel departments to ensure timely completion and minimal impact on the guest experience.
  • Assist with capital improvement projects, including planning, vendor coordination, scheduling, and project execution as directed by hotel leadership.
  • Monitor utility consumption and support energy-efficient and sustainable operating practices, including LEED initiatives where applicable.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations, including fire and life safety, HVAC, electrical, pool, environmental, and OSHA requirements.
  • Oversee the testing, maintenance, and proper operation of fire alarm, life safety, and emergency systems.
  • Maintain accurate records of inspections, preventative maintenance, repairs, equipment, and regulatory compliance.
  • Coordinate the work of contractors and service providers to ensure quality workmanship, timely completion, and compliance with hotel standards and applicable regulations.
  • Manage hotel engineering equipment, tools, vehicles, and carts to ensure safe and reliable operation.
  • Partner with hotel leadership, housekeeping, landscaping, and other departments to maintain exceptional interior and exterior property standards.
  • Support workplace safety initiatives, participate in regular safety meetings, and assist with emergency preparedness and response programs.
  • Ensure the Engineering team is appropriately scheduled to provide adequate coverage based on hotel occupancy, operational needs, and maintenance requirements.
  • Respond to guest and associate concerns related to maintenance and facilities in a professional and timely manner.
  • Maintain a visible presence throughout the property and ensure engineering standards are consistently maintained.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by hotel leadership.
Leadership Expectations

  • Recruit, train, coach, and develop Engineering associates to build a knowledgeable and high-performing team.
  • Establish clear expectations and hold team members accountable for performance, attendance, safety, and quality of work.
  • Maintain strong communication and partnerships with all hotel departments to support operational excellence and an exceptional guest experience.
  • Lead by example and demonstrate professionalism, sound judgment, and composure when responding to operational challenges or emergency situations.
  • Ensure Engineering associates understand and consistently follow hotel policies, safety procedures, and departmental standards.
  • Support Forbes and AAA luxury standards by ensuring the property and its facilities are maintained at the highest level.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; technical degree, trade certification, or bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 5–7 years of engineering, facilities, or maintenance experience, preferably in a luxury hotel, resort, or comparable hospitality environment.
  • Previous supervisory or management experience required.
  • Current state-required licenses and certifications, as applicable.
  • LEED accreditation or certification preferred.
  • Valid driver's license.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Proven leadership, coaching, and team development skills.
  • Strong knowledge of building systems, preventive maintenance, and facilities operations.
  • Working knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, life safety, pool, and other hotel building systems.
  • Experience coordinating contractors, vendors, and service providers.
  • Ability to read and understand equipment manuals, maintenance documentation, and applicable safety requirements.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple maintenance requests and projects in a fast-paced luxury hospitality environment.
  • Ability to respond effectively to emergencies and make sound decisions under pressure.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high standards of safety, cleanliness, appearance, and functionality.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with hotel leadership and all departments to support the overall guest experience.
