Job summary

Cowan Group Engineering (CGE) is seeking an Engineer Intern I to build a solid civil engineering foundation through hands-on design and project delivery. You will work with experienced engineers on transportation, water/wastewater, and site planning projects, from concept through final plans and construction support.

This position offers growth toward licensure, exposure to full project lifecycles, and collaboration with project teams while contributing to practical infrastructure solutions for

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited university by start date.
• FE examination strongly preferred; may be completed before graduation.
• EI certification required for classification as Engineer Intern I.
• 1–3 years of related engineering experience preferred.
• Basic knowledge of Civil 3D and/or OpenRoads.
• Strong mathematical, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to read and understand engineering plans and specs.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Attention to detail, organization, and deadline management.
• Ability to work collaboratively with project teams.

Responsibilities

• Assist with conceptual and final engineering design and construction plan prep.
• Perform engineering calculations and analyze data per codes and standards.
• Conduct site visits and gather project information.
• Develop design sketches for review by engineers or managers.
• Address review comments from clients and agencies.
• Prepare quantity calculations, cost estimates, specs, bid items, and documentation.
• Prepare documents for regulatory and funding agencies.
• Coordinate with project team members and subconsultants.
• Review work for accuracy and project requirements.
• Support drawing preparation and engineering exhibits.
