Job summary

Cagayan State University in Louisiana is seeking an Engineer Intern to support construction project delivery, field engineering, and oversight under the Engineer Supervisor.

No prior engineering experience is required as training is provided, and eligibility for the Louisiana Engineer Intern Certificate is required.

Candidates will work across Districts 04, 05, 08, and 58, coordinating with contractors and DOTD staff while progressing from Engineer Intern Applicant to Engineer Intern 2.

Qualifications

• Eligibility for Louisiana Engineer Intern Certificate.
• No prior engineering experience required; training is provided.
• Ability to work in District 04 (Caddo, Bossier, Webster, Claiborne, De Soto, Red River, Bienville), District 05 (Lincoln, Ouachita, Union, Morehouse, West Carroll, East Carroll, Madison, Richland, Jackson), District 08 (Rapides, Avoyelles, Vernon, Sabine, Natchitoches, Winn, Grant), District 58 (Franklin, Caldwell, La Salle, Catahoula, Concordia, Tensas).
• Reports to Engineer Supervisor.

• Review plans, specifications, estimates, construction documentation, and project records.
• Monitor or assist with review of contractor work for compliance with DOTD standards, specifications, and contract requirements.
• Coordinate with contractors, project engineers, inspectors, consultants, and internal DOTD staff.
• Review quantities, documentation, payments, work zone information, or project-related materials as assigned.
• Support construction certification, eConstruction, fabrication, field documentation, or final audit activities.
• Assist with resolving construction-related issues, technical questions, or project delivery concerns.
• Support emergency or disaster response activities as needed.

Compensation & Benefits

• Engineer Intern Applicant: $24.04 hourly / $1,923.20 biweekly; eligibility for Louisiana Engineer Intern Certificate.
• Engineer Intern 1: Special Entrance Rate $33.66 hourly / $2,692.80 biweekly; possession of current Louisiana Engineer Intern Certificate.
• Engineer Intern 2: Special Entrance Rate $36.02 hourly / $2,881.60 biweekly; possession of current Louisiana Engineer Intern Certificate plus one year of professional engineering experience.
