Job summary

San Antonio River Authority is seeking a Professional Engineer to plan, design, and supervise infrastructure projects with a focus on nature-based solutions in the San Antonio area. You will perform hydrologic and hydraulic modeling, coordinate investigations, and manage budgets and consultants.

The role requires professional licensure in Texas or an Engineer-in-Training with strong educational credentials. Experience with FEMA standards and GIS/CADD tools is valued.

Qualifications

• Undergraduate degree and registered as an Engineer-in-Training in Texas or Graduate degree with 2+ years of progressive engineering experience.
• Undergraduate degree and registered as a Professional Engineer in Texas with 3+ years of progressive engineering experience, preferred with graduate degree.

GENERAL SUMMARY

Plans, designs, and supervises the construction and maintenance of infrastructure projects with a focus on nature-based solutions. Performs hydrologic, hydraulic, and/or water quality modeling in support of planning and design. Manages projects and consultants.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Performs engineering design tasks and helps coordinate associated investigations and permitting. This may include design calculations, preparation of detailed plans and specifications, and calculation of quantities under the supervision of a professional engineer.
• Develops and reviews engineering reports, plans, and specifications.
• Develops and reviews hydrologic and hydraulic models for compliance with professional and FEMA standards.
• Analyzes engineering data, develops effective solutions, and prepares technical reports.
• Develops and reviews spatial data related to water resources using GIS and CADD software.
• Performs field visits in support of modeling, design, construction oversight, and condition assessment.
• Manages assigned engineering projects to include budget preparation, utilization of resources, project management, reporting, and public relations coordination.
• Coordinates, communicates, and documents activities with other departments, project partners, manufacturers, surveyors, and regulatory agencies.
• Works with consultants and coordinates the work of consultants.
• Performs related work as required.

Professional Engineer

• Performs engineering design and coordinates associated investigations and permitting. This may include design calculations, preparation of detailed plans and specifications, and calculation of quantities.
• Supports construction phases of projects with submittal reviews, engineering inspections, and responses to RFIs.
• Develops, signs, and seals engineering reports, plans, and specifications, as well as review those developed by others.
• Develops and reviews hydrologic and hydraulic models for compliance with professional and FEMA standards.
• Analyzes engineering data, develops effective solutions, and prepares technical reports.
• Develops and reviews spatial data related to water resources using GIS and CADD software.
• Performs field visits in support of modeling, design, construction oversight, and condition assessment.
• Manages assigned engineering projects to include budget preparation, utilization of resources, project management, reporting, and public relations coordination.
• Coordinates, communicates, and documents activities with other departments, project partners, manufacturers, surveyors, and regulatory agencies.

SUPERVISORY REQUIREMENTS

• This position does not directly supervise any employees.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Required Education and Experience

• Undergraduate Degree and registered as an Engineer-in-Training in the State of Texas may qualify as an Engineer in Training; Preferred: Graduate Degree with an emphasis in Civil, Environmental, or Agricultural Engineering, Hydrology, or Water Resources and two (2) or more years of progressively responsible engineering experience in all phases of engineering including modeling, drafting, surveying, design, construction.
• Undergraduate Degree and registered as a Professional Engineer in the State of Texas with three (3) or more years of progressively responsible engineering experience in all phases of engineering including modeling, drafting, surveying, design, construction, and appropriate continuing education, may qualify as a Professional Engineer; Preferred: Graduate Degree with an emphasis in Civil, Environmental, or Agricultural Engineering, Hydrology, or Water Resources or relevant discipline.

*If selected, level will be determined by Manager based on internal assessment of education and experience.
