Qualifications

  • Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering Exam (FE) and possession of the EI certificate.
  • Valid driver’s license is required.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with design and planning of engineering projects under supervision.
  • Prepare reports, perform modeling, calculations, and revisions.
  • Conduct research and prepare draft technical specifications for review.
  • Interact with clients and gather information from agencies as needed.
  • Perform water and sewer analysis, and prepare GIS databases and exhibits.
  • Conduct condition assessments of sewer facilities and develop improvement plans.

Skills

Ability to apply engineering principles
Working knowledge of CAD Civil 3D

Knowledge of ArcGIS and WaterCAD (preferred)

Description

As an Engineer in Training II at GCW, you will perform entry‑level professional engineering work, including developmental assignments involving the application of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria in carrying out routine engineering tasks under close supervision.

Essential Functions
  • Assist with design and planning of engineering projects under the supervision of the Project Manager.
  • Prepare reports, perform modeling, calculations, drawing preparation and revisions, and review shop drawings and requests for information under Project Manager supervision.
  • Assist with the preparation of cost estimates, review modeling, and basic calculations.
  • Assist with study plans.
  • Conduct research and prepare draft technical specifications for review and approval by the Project Manager.
  • Interact, as directed, with clients on an intermittent basis and gather information from agencies as required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Possesses ability to apply engineering principles to evaluate and solve basic engineering problems.
  • Working knowledge of CAD Civil 3D software and Microsoft programs (Word, Excel, and Project).
  • For some departments, specific working knowledge of ArcGIS software and/or WaterCAD is preferred.
Water/Wastewater Division
  • Perform water and sewer analysis.
  • Prepare GIS databases and exhibits documenting existing and proposed infrastructures.
  • Conduct condition assessments of sewer facilities and provide rehabilitation recommendations.
  • Develop improvement plans for reservoirs, pump stations, and sewer lift stations.
  • Develop improvement plans for major utility infrastructure.
  • Design sewer and water main infrastructure.
  • Conduct sewer capacity studies.
Education and Experience Requirements

Bachelor of Science degree in an appropriate engineering discipline is required.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering Exam (FE) and possession of the EI certificate; valid driver’s license.
