Responsibilities

The Engineer-in-Training is a professional entry-level position. Prepares designs on minor projects or assists other engineers with major projects dealing with streets, alleys, transportation systems including curbs, sidewalks, traffic flow, storm and sanitary sewers, water distribution and storage facilities, safety and other civil systems. Assists engineers in developing cost estimates needed for City, State and Federally funded projects. Conducts and participates in studies which analyze specific engineering problem areas. Prepares preliminary drawings, analyzes problems and formulates plans and recommendations to eliminate problems.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering. Degree must be from a college or university that is accredited by the U.S. Department of Education through the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools Higher Learning Commission or equivalent region.

License Requirements

Must possess a valid driver’s license at time of appointment and maintain thereafter as a term and condition of continued employment.

Notes

All candidates must pass any level of background investigation applicable to the position, including current city employees seeking transfer, promotion, demotion, etc. into a classified position.
