Job summary

Portola Hotel & Spa in Monterey, CA is seeking an Engineer III to maintain guest rooms, restaurant, pool, and all public areas, providing all functions of Engineer II and problem-solving under supervision.

The role requires lifting 50 pounds, preventive maintenance on HVAC, electrical, plumbing, kitchen equipment, and responding to guests' requests with safety in mind. Shift: Day, full-time.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Valid California Driver License required.
  • 1 year’s experience in hotel maintenance preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive maintenance and repairs on hotel equipment including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and guest rooms.
  • Respond to guest requests courteously and safely.
  • Handle elevator breakdowns and urgent repairs.
  • Document parts used and logs; take meter readings.
  • Maintain logs and assist with major projects.

Job Description

The Engineer III will be responsible for maintaining guest rooms, restaurant, pool, administrative offices and all other public areas of the property. The Engineer III will be able to provide all functions of Engineer II, as well as problem solving and troubleshooting under direct supervision.

Essential Job Functions
  • Under direct supervision of Engineering Management and/or Engineer I/II.
  • Willing to learn all technical skills required by the department under direct supervision.
  • Physically capable of performing rigorous tasks, including lifting 50 pounds or more, and operating needed equipment or materials.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and necessary repairs on all hotel equipment, including kitchen, laundry, boiler, plumbing, pool, HVAC, electrical and guest rooms.
  • Respond to and handle guest requests in a courteous, efficient, and safe manner.
  • Respond to all emergency situations including fire alarms, bomb threats, disasters, and power failures; notify the appropriate authorities and be familiar with SDS regulations.
  • Make rounds of the hotel property to ensure everything is in working order.
  • Clean and maintain all equipment and work areas.
  • Complete maintenance requests, take equipment and meter readings, and maintain logs to notify the next shift.
  • Document parts used and parts that need to be purchased.
  • Handle elevator breakdowns.
  • Assist with major projects as assigned.
  • Write notes to other staff members and make logbook entries.
  • Support safe work habits and a safe working environment at all times.
  • Perform other duties and jobs as needed by supervisor.
  • Adhere to hotel key control policies and procedures established by the company.

Knowledge of the entire hotel safety procedures, equipment, and protective wear to ensure the safety and security of our guests and employees.

Previous Experience Required

1 year’s experience in the hotel maintenance field.
