Job summary

Grand Pacific Resorts is seeking an on-site Maintenance Engineer to support guest experiences by maintaining hotel systems, equipment, and facilities. You will perform preventive maintenance, handle electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and mechanical repairs, and mentor junior engineers while coordinating with hotel departments.

You must have hands-on experience, relevant trade certifications, and the ability to work with minimal supervision in a fast-paced hotel environment.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent (strongly preferred).
  • Minimum four years of hands‑on experience in electrical, painting, plumbing, and A/C repairs; degree or diploma in HVAC, electrical, plumbing, or related trade preferred.
  • Prior hotel experience a plus.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain required licenses, certificates, or permits.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive maintenance procedures and document work.
  • Repair kitchen, laundry, and hotel vital systems.
  • Prioritize work orders to minimize guest downtime and coordinate with department managers.
  • Respond to guest room calls as needed.
  • Lead maintenance operations when management is absent and mentor other engineers.
  • Use the Lockout/Tagout system before maintenance work.
  • Troubleshoot and repair electrical, HVAC, plumbing, and mechanical systems.
  • Communicate day’s activities to other shifts using approved channels.

Job description

Position Purpose

Support an excellent guest experience through effectively responding and attending to internal and external guest repair requests; maintain the physical buildings and systems.

Essential Functions
  • 40%: Perform preventive maintenance procedures and document work in approved forms.
  • 30%: Perform general repairs and services for kitchen, laundry, and hotel vital systems.
  • 15%: Prioritize work orders for urgent requests and hotel downtime to minimize guest inconvenience; interact with department managers as required.
  • 5%: Respond to guest room calls as needed.
  • Additional tasks:
    • Communicate with guests/customers to resolve maintenance issues with little supervision.
    • Perform preventive maintenance on tools and equipment, including cleaning and lubrication.
    • Visually inspect tools, equipment, or machines.
    • Carry equipment (e.g., tools, radio).
    • Identify, locate, and operate shut‑off valves for equipment.
    • Maintain maintenance inventory and requisition parts and supplies.
    • Ensure day’s activities and problems are communicated to other shifts using approved communication programs.
    • Safely perform complex repairs for physical property, electrical, plumbing, mechanical equipment, HVAC, refrigeration, pool heaters, ensuring compliance with company standards and codes.
    • Troubleshoot and repair all types of equipment, electrical, HVAC, plumbing, laundry, and kitchen systems.
    • Use the Lockout/Tagout system before maintenance work.
    • Perform advanced troubleshooting of hotel mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.
    • Perform leadership roles when management is absent.
    • Mentor other engineers and train them in technical fields.
Supportive Functions
  • Assist Engineering Management when Chief Engineer and Director of Engineering are absent.
  • Ensure all assigned work assignments are completed or in progress by the engineering team.
  • Support management with preventive maintenance program and ensure timely completion.
  • Assist other departmental craft workers as required.
  • Perform duties as part of the Fire Alarm Response Team.
  • Participate in OSHA/Safety programs and hotel Emergency Evacuation Team.
  • Enter and locate work‑related information using computers.
  • Perform other reasonable duties as requested.
Specific Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Advanced ability to read standard blueprints for electrical, plumbing, and mechanical.
  • Above‑average engineering operations skills and strong general mechanical ability.
  • Proficiency in at least three of the following categories: air conditioning & refrigeration, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, pneumatic/electronic systems, carpentry, kitchen & laundry equipment, vehicles, energy conservation, and general building management.
  • Knowledge and skill in safe use of hand and power tools.
  • Advanced knowledge of engineering computer programs for preventative maintenance and energy management.
  • Ability to train and mentor other engineers.
  • Experience performing Engineer‑on‑Duty responsibilities.
  • Ability to work well with all departments and hotel staff.
  • Capacity to promote a cordial and caring attitude toward department heads.
Physical Demands
  • Move, lift, carry, push, pull, and place objects up to 50 lbs without assistance; heavier tasks require assistance.
  • Move up and down stairs, ramps, and ladders.
  • Reach overhead and below knees, including bending, twisting, and stooping.
  • Work mostly indoors in moderate temperatures but must be able to work in extreme conditions (freezers, kitchens).
  • Stand and maintain mobility for up to 4 hours.
  • Be able to bend, squat, and frequently lift 50 lbs.
  • Work may involve exposure to mechanical parts, electrical current, heat, chemicals, fumes, dust, and various atmospheric conditions.
  • Require manual dexterity, good vision, hearing, and communication skills.
