Job summary

HNTB Corporation is seeking an Engineer II in Minneapolis to support the growing Transit & Mobility section. The role involves preparing design outputs, managing project tasks, and collaborating with engineering teams on various transit projects.

Qualified candidates will have a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, with relevant experience in transit design. Proficiency in AutoCAD and MicroStation is required. The position offers competitive compensation in a collaborative work environment.

Qualifications

  • 2 years of relevant experience with a Bachelor's degree or 1 year with a Master's degree in Engineering.
  • Proficient in applying geometric and algebraic principles.
  • EIT certification is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Complete assigned work within schedule and hours provided.
  • Prepare and modify project reports, plans, designs, and calculations.
  • Assist with project quantities and cost estimates.
  • Support engineering teams with design file organization.

Skills

Proficiency in engineering principles for BRT/LRT projects

What We’re Looking For

HNTB is seeking an Engineer II to join our growing Minnesota Transit & Mobility section in 2026. Our group works with transit and passenger rail clients to deliver on a diverse program of projects through planning and design. What You’ll Do
  • Complete assigned work within the schedule and number of hours provided.
  • Prepare and/or modify selected portions of project reports, plans, designs, and calculations.
  • Develop project quantities and assist with the development of cost estimates.
  • Assist engineering teams with organization and administrative support of design files.
  • Self‑sufficiently complete various tasks including research, data collection, field investigations, and design of projects.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
What You’ll Need
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and 2 years of relevant experience, or
  • Master’s degree in Engineering and 1 year of relevant experience.
What You’ll Bring
  • Proficiency in applying engineering, geometric and algebraic principles for BRT and/or LRT projects.
  • Experience in preparing design and planning deliverables for transit agencies including Metro Transit.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365, Bluebeam, and MicroStation and/or AutoCAD or other required software.
What We Prefer
  • Engineer in Training (EIT) certification.
  • Knowledgeable in MicroStation/OpenRoads and/or AutoCAD Civl3D, preferably with experience leveraging built‑in tools to expedite plan production.

Pay

The approximate pay range for Minnesota is $78,138.74 – $117,208.11. This is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Actual compensation will be dependent on qualifications, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities as well as physical work location within the state.

The approximate nationwide pay range for this position is $74,417.85 – $139,533.46. This is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Actual compensation will be dependent on qualifications, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities as well as physical work location within the state.
