The City of Fayetteville is currently recruiting for an Engineer II - Traffic to perform highly complex professional civil engineering work including designing various projects, preparing cost estimates, drafting specifications, collecting site data; and to provide responsible staff support to the Public Services Department.
Responsibilities:
- Collect and process site data; design and revise various projects including sidewalk design, roadway design (horizontal and vertical alignment), pavement markings, signing plans, and traffic signal design.
- Participate in the development of necessary budget as it pertains to assigned projects for the department CIP budget, forecast additional funds needed and monitor expenditures; implement adjustments as necessary.
- Supervise and participate in the transfer of existing condition field notes to drawings.
- Compose, evaluate and review plans, specifications, designs and related documents, technical reports and letters, proposals, reports and studies; participate in the development and preparation of plans, specifications and cost estimates for proposed and public improvement projects.
- Plan, prioritize, assign and review the work of staff responsible for providing technical services within the Traffic Services Division; provide hands-on training for other staff as requested.
- Recommend and implement goals, objectives and practices for providing effective and efficient services.
- Assist with the selection, negotiation and management of professional services contracts; monitor contract compliance and status; inspect worksites to ensure progress and compliance.
- Answer questions and provide information to the general public; respond to and resolve citizen inquiries and complaints; refer difficult and sensitive problems to appropriate staff.
- Assist with the management, administration, and planning of the City’s Downtown Parking and Thoroughfare Streetlighting program.
- Review plans and supplemental information for developments and projects inside the city enforcing the ordinances and design standards.
Minimum Requirements:
Experience: Two years of increasingly responsible professional experience in civil engineering.
Training: Equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in civil engineering or a related field.
Licensing & Certifications:
Required: Possession of an appropriate, valid driver’s license and ability to maintain insurability.
Preferred: Project Management Professional (PMP), Engineer Intern (EI), Professional Engineer (PE), Road Safety Professional 1 (RSP1), or Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE).
