Responsibilities

  • Support production of RAT systems, including air-driven turbines, gearboxes, hydraulic pumps and actuators.
  • Provide engineering and manufacturing support to suppliers and Collins production sites to resolve issues affecting producibility, quality and yield.
  • Investigate hardware test failures and production issues to identify root causes and drive corrective actions.
  • Assist in troubleshooting manufacturing, operational and test-related hardware issues.
  • Participate in product and component development activities, including cost estimates, specifications, layouts, and performance requirements.
  • Perform hardware analysis and mechanical design for RAT systems and aerospace applications.
  • Support qualification and performance testing to ensure hardware meets requirements.
  • Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, supplier and production teams to implement practical solutions.

We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer who is passionate about solving complex engineering challenges and contributing to the development and production of advanced aerospace systems. The ideal candidate enjoys working with rotating mechanical hardware, electro-mechanical and hydro-mechanical systems, and thrives in a hands-on, collaborative environment.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to work across the product lifecycle—from development and mechanical design to manufacturing support, troubleshooting, testing, and qualifications. You will partner with engineering, manufacturing, suppliers, and production teams to identify root causes, resolve challenging hardware issues, and help deliver reliable, high-quality aerospace products.

What You Will Do
  • Support the production of Ram Air Turbine (RAT) systems, including air-driven turbines, angle gearboxes, hydraulic pumps, and linear hydraulic actuators with locking and release mechanisms.
  • Provide engineering and manufacturing support to suppliers and Collins' production sites to resolve issues affecting hardware producibility, quality, and yield.
  • Investigate electro-mechanical and hydro-mechanical hardware acceptance test failures and production issues to identify root causes and drive effective corrective actions.
  • Support troubleshooting of manufacturing, operational, and test-related hardware issues.
  • Participate in product and component development activities, including cost estimates, standard specifications, drawing layouts, and performance and maintenance requirements.
  • Perform hardware analysis and mechanical design for RAT systems and related aerospace applications.
  • Support qualification and performance testing to ensure hardware meets engineering and customer requirements.
  • Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, supplier, and production teams to develop and implement practical solutions.
  • Apply strong problem-solving and engineering judgment to improve hardware reliability, manufacturability, quality, and performance.
Qualifications You Must Have
  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 2 years of prior relevant experience
Qualifications We Prefer
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering.
  • Experience analyzing rotating mechanical hardware and complex mechanical systems.
  • Experience troubleshooting and resolving hardware manufacturing, operational, and test-related issues.

The salary range for this role is 68,900 USD - 131,100 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
