As a leading water technology company with 23,000 employees operating in over 150 countries, Xylem is at the forefront of addressing the world's most critical water challenges. We invite passionate individuals to join our team, dedicated to exceeding customer expectations through innovative and sustainable solutions.

The Project Engineer II – Electrical & Mechanical Systems is responsible for the technical execution of engineered-to-order projects from post-order handoff through design, manufacturing, factory testing, startup readiness, and project closeout. As part of Sales Execution Engineering, this role converts customer and contract requirements into executable mechanical and electrical deliverables while supporting cost, schedule, quality, safety, and customer commitments.

The position serves as a multidisciplinary technical bridge among Sales, Applications Engineering, Project Management, Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain, Field Service, Product Management, suppliers, and customers. The engineer provides local support in Holland for equipment integration, factory acceptance testing, troubleshooting, and feedback into product standardization, reducing delays and execution risk at the point of manufacture.

Core Responsibilities and Tasks
1. Project Engineering & Technical Execution
  • Serve as the technical execution lead for assigned projects, coordinating mechanical, electrical, controls, and system-integration activities.
  • Review order documentation, customer specifications, approved exceptions, scope, budget assumptions, and schedule requirements during project handoff.
  • Translate requirements into clear engineering deliverables, responsibilities, milestones, and technical decisions.
  • Partner with the Project Manager to identify cost, schedule, quality, safety, and technical risks; provide options, trade‑offs, recommendations, and decision deadlines.
  • Maintain disciplined documentation of design basis, assumptions, deviations, changes, risks, and approvals.
  • Coordinate technical work performed by internal resources, suppliers, and third‑party engineering partners.
2. Mechanical & Electrical Systems Engineering
  • Review and support mechanical systems including skids, structures, piping, pumps, valves, vessels, instrumentation, and equipment interfaces.
  • Review and support electrical systems including power distribution, motor controls, control panels, VFDs, instrumentation, wiring, grounding, and communication interfaces.
  • Interpret and review P&IDs, general arrangements, fabrication drawings, electrical schematics, panel layouts, bills of material, load lists, I/O lists, and technical submittals.
  • Perform or coordinate engineering, calculations, software adaptations, equipment selection, component sizing, and design verification appropriate to project scope.
  • Ensure designs consider manufacturability, maintainability, service access, safety, and applicable customer and regulatory requirements.
  • Initiate and support engineering changes, drawing revisions, part creation, BOM updates, and configuration control.
3. Manufacturing, Testing & Integration Support
  • Provide hands‑on engineering support to manufacturing and test teams at the Holland facility.
  • Support production readiness, build reviews, equipment integration, functional testing, and Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT).
  • Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, controls, and interface issues using structured root‑cause analysis.
  • Coordinate rapid resolution of issues that affect assembly, testing, quality, shipment, or customer commitments.
  • Verify that test results, punch‑list items, corrective actions, and release criteria are documented and closed before shipment.
  • Capture manufacturing and test feedback to improve future project execution and product standards.
4. Customer, Supplier & Field Support
  • Participate in technical customer meetings, design reviews, submittal reviews, and scope‑clarification discussions.
  • Communicate technical issues in business terms, including specification basis, assumptions, cost and schedule exposure, available options, and recommended path.
  • Coordinate with suppliers on component selection, technical documentation, fabrication, testing, and issue resolution.
  • Support site readiness, commissioning preparation, startup, troubleshooting, and transition to Field Service when required.
  • Support resolution of warranty, quality, and performance concerns and ensure lessons learned are incorporated into future execution.
5. Standardization & Continuous Improvement
  • Identify repeatable project content and convert lessons learned into standard designs, specifications, test procedures, checklists, and reusable deliverables.
  • Support modernization and standardization of mechanical and electrical drawings, parts, BOMs, hardware, and controls interfaces.
  • Participate in Engineering Change Notice (ECN), corrective‑action, and product‑improvement processes.
  • Use project, manufacturing, test, and field data to reduce variation, rework, cycle time, and recurring technical issues.
  • Contribute to Sales Execution Engineering processes, tools, templates, design reviews, and knowledge‑sharing practices.
6. Safety, Quality & Compliance
  • Execute work in accordance with company safety, quality, environmental, and engineering requirements.
  • Apply applicable codes, standards, customer requirements, and internal design practices to assigned work.
  • Participate in design risk reviews, quality investigations, failure analysis, and corrective and preventive actions.
