Job summary

MLT Systems is seeking a Mechanical Systems Engineer to support the Amphibious Combat Vehicle and Assault Amphibious Vehicle sustainment programs. The role emphasizes mechanical systems engineering within defense acquisition, sustainment, and change processes.

The candidate should possess a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering (master’s preferred), 4–6 years in mechanical or systems engineering, and an active Secret clearance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related discipline; Master’s preferred.
• 4–6 years of professional experience in mechanical or systems engineering, preferably DoD acquisition/sustainment.
• Active Secret clearance required for classified program activities; security protocols must be followed.
• PE licensure or progress toward licensure; CAD software certifications are preferred.
• Experience with lifecycle sustainment planning and DoD acquisition processes.

Responsibilities

• Review, analyze, and develop technical documentation to support engineering change proposals and sustainment objectives.
• Conduct detailed analyses and participate in design and ECP reviews.
• Witness hardware integration onto AAV/ACV platforms and observe test execution.
• Review test plans and reports for accuracy and completeness.
• Develop briefs and present results to government stakeholders in support of schedules.
• Support integration and testing of mechanical systems; identify and mitigate risks.

In support of Program Manager, Advanced Amphibious Assault (PM AAA) within the Amphibious Combat Vehicle (ACV) and Assault Amphibious Vehicle (AAV) Sustainment Team, we are seeking a Mechanical Systems Engineer. This position requires technical proficiency in mechanical systems and the ability to operate within the structured frameworks of defense acquisition, sustainment, and engineering change processes.

Responsibilities:

General requirements are as follows:

• Review, analyze, and develop technical documentation to support engineering change proposals and sustainment objectives.
• Conduct detailed technical analyses and participate in design and Engineering Change Proposal (ECP) reviews.
• Witness hardware integration onto AAV/ACV platforms and observe test execution.
• Review test plans and reports to ensure accuracy and completeness.
• Develop informational briefs and present results of AAV/ACV modification tasks to government stakeholders in support of program schedules.

Specific requirements and tasks may include but are not limited to the following:

• Engineering design reviews and technical analysis.
• Reviewing and commenting on technical documentation (requirements, CAD files, test plans/reports, engineering change documents).
• Supporting integration and testing of mechanical systems.
• Identifying and mitigating technical risks.
• Familiarity with sustainment processes, configuration management, structured technical reviews, and life cycle support is essential.

Education/Experience:

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related discipline (Master's preferred).
• The ideal candidate will have 4-6 years of professional experience in mechanical or systems engineering, preferably supporting Department of Defense acquisition or sustainment programs.
• Experience navigating the full life cycle of defense acquisition systems - from requirements definition through validation and sustainment.

Specific/Preferred Requirements:

• Active Secret clearance required to participate in classified program activities and maintain compliance with federal security protocols.
• Strong analytical thinking and technical communication skills to articulate complex engineering concepts across technical and managerial domains.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license or progress toward licensure.
• Certifications in CAD software (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or equivalent).
• INCOSE Certified Systems Engineering Professional (CSEP) or equivalent systems engineering certification.
• Familiarity with DoD 8570 baseline certifications (e.g., Security+, CISSP) for IT-related systems.
• Experience with lifecycle sustainment planning and risk management frameworks.
• Experience working with tactical and combat vehicles in military or defense environments.
• Strong presentation skills for developing and delivering technical briefs to government stakeholders.

Physical Demands:

This position requires the ability to sit, stand, walk, speak and hear, and to use hands and arms for routine work tasks. The employee may occasionally lift or move items up to 30 pounds. Vision abilities required include close and distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus, with or without corrective lenses.
