Job summary

American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) Government Engineering Services seeks an Engineer I to assist with ship structure, stability and load line reviews. You will perform design reviews and analyses on major projects and support U.S. government agencies.

You must be a U.S. citizen and able to obtain a security clearance. Under supervision, you will prepare calculations, run stability analyses, and contribute to technical reports while upholding ABS quality standards.

Qualifications

  • B.S. degree in Civil, Structural, Naval Architecture, Ocean, or Mechanical Eng. (M.S. may be preferred).
  • 0–5 years of related engineering experience in shipyard, design/consulting, shipping/oil, or classification society.
  • Experience with stability software such as GHS, NAPA, or equivalents.
  • Exposure to Finite Element Method (course work or research).

Responsibilities

  • Perform detailed engineering review of ship structural plans and stability analyses for compliance.
  • Prepare first-principle calculations or using CAE tools to predict vessel structural integrity.
  • Perform stress, FEM, and fatigue analyses.
  • Use FEMAP and NASTRAN for FEM modeling and solving.
  • Prepare technical reports and coordinate resolutions with other engineers.
  • Maintain quality and timeliness of project work to ABS standards.
