Job summary

GrayMatter is seeking an Engineer I to join our Ashland, VA team. This role focuses on solving complex automation challenges and delivering high-quality control systems from concept through commissioning.

You will collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to design, develop, implement, and support automation solutions at client sites, traveling 30-40% across projects to ensure successful startups and demonstrations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
• 2+ years experience programming industrial PLC platforms including Rockwell, Siemens, Modicon, or similar.
• 2+ years experience with control system implementation, design, installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting.
• Basic understanding of electrical schematics and industrial electrical installations.
• Working knowledge of P&IDs, instrumentation, and industrial control equipment.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, implement, and commission industrial control system solutions meeting customer requirements.
• Configure, troubleshoot, and support PLC, HMI, SCADA, and industrial automation systems.
• Perform FAT, SAT, startups, onsite pilots, and customer demonstrations.
• Assist with project planning, engineering design, and technical documentation throughout the lifecycle.
• Provide technical consultation and training to customers on new applications and systems.
