Overview

Under general supervision, this position is responsible for the development, maintenance, and publishing of standards and specifications related to Transmission Line Standards across PPL’s operating companies. The ideal candidate must be highly focused on safety, self-motivated, innovative, efficient, organized, highly skilled in problem solving, and have good presentation skills. Many tasks require novel solutions and creative thinking.


Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain, and update Transmission Line standard drawings, design intent documents, engineering instructions, and equipment specifications to implement industry best practices, and to drive consistent and effective results across PPL Engineering, Material Procurement, Construction, and Commissioning.
  • Research and benchmark industry trends including new technologies.
  • Maintain engagement in industry events and conferences, and incorporate new technologies and best practices (occasional travel may be required).
  • Develop RFPs and evaluate proposals from consultants performing standards engineering work on behalf of PPL.
  • Ability to manage engineering contractors as required and work effectively in a diverse team environment.
  • Visit the manufacturer's facilities when requested to inspect and accept new equipment.
  • Work with project teams to review standard exception requests that arise during design or construction.
  • Contribute as a technical consultant on applicable codes, regulations, NERC and NPCC requirements, and company standards.
  • Reinforce a strong safety culture within the group, through daily leadership and constructive behaviors.
  • All other duties and projects as assigned.

Qualifications

Engineer I: A bachelor's degree in engineering, or engineering technology from an ABET-accredited college or university.

Engineer II: All Engineer I requirements, with a minimum of two related years of experience.

Engineer III: All Engineer I and Engineer II requirements, with a minimum of five related years of experience and working knowledge of the utility industry and regulations.

Principal Engineer: All Engineer I and Engineer II requirements, with a minimum of 10 related years of experience and working knowledge of the utility industry and regulations.
