Job description

Responsible for placing safety as #1 priority in day-to-day work routine for self and others. Responsible for the preparation and project coordination of engineering designs, economic justification and installation of electric transmission systems and specifications for various projects. Effectively works and interacts with regional and field operations. Performs studies and related activities. Provides support to engineering staff as needed.

Responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining protection systems that safeguard the electrical transmission system from faults and abnormal operating conditions. This role performs power system studies, develops protection philosophies, calculates and configures protective relay settings, supports commissioning and testing activities, analyzes system performance, and ensures compliance with NERC reliability standards and industry regulations. The ideal candidate possesses strong analytical and problem-solving skills, experience with power system analysis software, and the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative team.

Level I Applies basic engineering techniques for entry-level assignments with review and guidance from a higher level.

Level II Applies standard engineering methods and techniques to solve problems; moderate guidance and direction is provided and work is normally reviewed from a high level.

Level III Applies a broad range of engineering skills and techniques, leads projects, and provides direction to lower level engineers.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must possess a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering.

  • Five years of progressively responsible experience and understanding in the energy industry including utility electric and gas operations, maintenance, design, and project management.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Training and proficiency in business application software such as Engineering Analysis programs, CAD, GIS, surveying principles, and J.D. Edwards.
  • An EI (Engineering Intern) or an EIT (Engineering in Training) Certificate.
  • An EI (Engineering Intern) or EIT (Engineering in Training) Certificate.
  • Professional Engineering (P.E.) designation.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • Must take all measures necessary to protect networks, devices, programs and data from cyber-attack, damage or unauthorized access.
  • Required to maintain a valid driver’s license.
  • Moderate (25%) travel within service territory is required.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United State, no sponsorships considered.
  • Subject to pre-employment drug screen and background check.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provides engineering designs, specifications, support service, cost estimates and project management for electric construction projects and other projects of technical nature.
  • Manages placement of recording devices and review of system data to effectively monitor system capacity and ensure compliance with State and Federal codes and company policy.
  • Prepares feasibility studies and engineering design of distribution extensions, while assuring proper installation of equipment.
  • Identifies and plans required system reinforcement to ensure continued electric service to all customers during peak demand period.
  • Performs other tasks and special projects as assigned.
  • Project manager of large and complex projects and facilities. Prepares scope, establishes schedules, detailed cost estimates and budget, creates and manages project team, reviews and manages outside consultants and contractors, creates bid documents, evaluates and awards bids, documents change management.
  • Assists in the preparation of the corporate capital budget for all engineering responsibilities, including reinforcement, replacement, and relocation projects.
  • Develop plans to increase electricsystem capacity and reliability. Maintains electricsystem models and manage Integrated Resource Plan.
  • Administrates regional personnel to ensure contract performance specifications and adherence.
  • Reviews and analyzes system capacity for the addition of new customers and increased loads and proposes value-added solutions to optimally provide electricservice.
  • Performs other tasks and special projects as assigned.
