Job summary

NV5 seeks a general staff Engineer-in-training/designer for the Native American Services Engineering Group in the Albuquerque office. The ideal candidate holds a four-year degree and FE certification in civil/structural/geological engineering, with two or more years of transportation design experience.

Experience with planning/design, drainage infrastructure, AutoCAD, GIS, and familiarity with Tribal Transportation Programs is valued.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil, environmental, geological, or general engineering.
  • FE certification in civil/structural/geological engineering preferred.
  • 2+ years transportation design experience.
  • Knowledge of Tribal Transportation Programs, FHWA, NM public agencies, and BIA project design standards.

Responsibilities

  • Transportation planning and general infrastructure design.
  • Develop long-range transportation plans.
  • Prepare technical reports and construction plans for infrastructure elements.
  • Coordinate with disciplines, clients, and sub-consultants; adhere to project procedures.
  • Utilize AutoCAD and GIS tools in design tasks.

The preferred candidate will have a four (4) year college degree and Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) certification in civil, structural, geological engineering and two (2) or more years transportation design experience. Consideration will be given for candidates with transportation planning and design/designer backgrounds with general technical skills in design of transportation and drainage infrastructure, planning, and construction inspection services. General technical knowledge for infrastructure analysis, drainage and hydraulics analysis, AutoCAD, GIS software’s, general knowledge of Tribal Transportation Programs, FHWA, local governments and state agencies, and Bureau of Indian Affairs project design and development criteria and design. The person in this position will provide technical expertise on general engineering issues for planning and design of general infrastructure.

  • Implement and adhere to company policies and procedures for the execution of projects.
  • Use of AutoCAD and design software.
  • Use of GIS software.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Knowledge of or willingness to learn industry-standard engineering techniques, reference materials, and design criteria
  • Knowledge of and willingness to learn TTP, APWA, FHWA, NMDOT, and other New Mexico public agency design methods and procedures
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD/Civil3D or similar CAD design tools
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to adhere to an assigned work plan and manage time to complete tasks on schedule and budget
  • Availability to occasionally work overtime, including weekends, as needed
  • Availability for occasional overnight travel
  • Willingness to learn
Requirements

Minimum Education/Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil, environmental, geological, or general engineering.
  • 0-4 years of experience.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
  • Must have a valid New Mexico Fundamentals of Engineering certification.
  • A valid New Mexico Driver’s License is required.
