Job summary

Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing North America, Inc. (TEMA) is seeking a Battery Pack Assembly Engineer to lead and manage new model projects across PACCC engineering. You will drive process development, specify equipment, and manage budgets while ensuring safety, quality, and cost targets.

The role requires prioritizing KPI achievement, coordinating with multiple groups, and traveling up to 50% (including potential work in Japan) to support tooling and installation efforts.

Qualifications

  • BS Degree in Engineering or 4 years equivalent industry experience.
  • Experience writing machine specifications for equipment procurement.
  • Experience leading cross-functional discussions and driving direction.
  • Project schedule development and KPI setting experience.
  • Ability to travel up to 30%–50% and possibly dispatch to Japan for project needs.
  • Bonus if you have Body Weld/Chassis Weld/Case Weld experience.
  • Experience in Battery Module and Pack production.

Who we’re looking for

Toyota’s Engineering, Excellence, and Strategy (EES) Pack, Assembly, Controls, Caseweld, and Chassis (PACCC) Department seeks a passionate and highly-motivated Battery Pack Assembly Engineer. The primary responsibility of this role is to lead and manage new model projects from all aspects of PACCC engineering in Toyota’s North American Manufacturing Shops. Reporting to the Manager, the person in this role will support the PACCC Engineering department’s objective to provide new model processes to the manufacturing facilities which meet all targets for Safety, Quality, Productivity and Cost.

What you’ll be doing
  • Create equipment schedules and budgets for new processes
  • Lead process development through design, machine specification, equipment procurement, installation, safety risk assessments, dimensional accuracy investigations and process trials based on project milestones and events
  • Manage work to achieve project KPI’s
  • Execute onsite equipment modifications during non-production time (weekends, holidays, etc.)
  • Participate in team kaizen and organizational improvement activities
  • Interact with outside groups (Body Manufacturing Pilot, Stamping PE, Plant Facilities, Vendors, etc.) to divide responsibilities and resolve conflicts
What you bring
  • BS Degree in Engineering (or Engineering Related Field) or 4 years equivalent experience in industry
  • Experience in writing machine specifications for equipment procurement
  • Experience leading cross functional discussions and driving direction setting
  • Project Schedule development and KPI setting experience
  • Ability to work weekends, holiday periods, and shutdown periods to support tooling modification and installation projects
  • Ability to travel up to 30% - 50% to support work at machine vendors, Toyota manufacturing locations, and occasionally in Japan - dispatch to another site (~1 year) is likely to support project needs
  • Added bonus if you have Experience in Body Weld, Chassis Weld, or Case Weld (T/M or contractor), PACCC, Assembly Manufacturing Plant experience
  • Experience in other Body functions (Seibi, Carott Seibi, Quality, etc.)
  • Experience in other non-Body related automotive divisions
  • Experience working with C3, Catia, and/or AutoCAD
  • Experience in Battery Module and Pack production
  • Quality measurement and/or analysis experience (Faro or other systems)
