Job summary

K&A Power Group is seeking an Engineer I to join our team in Oakbrook, IL. The role involves working on electrical distribution projects, from conceptual design to final surveying maps, with hands-on field work and coordination across stakeholders.

The engineer will support surveying services, develop designs, prepare specifications, and mentor junior engineers, while traveling to construction sites as needed. A B.E. or equivalent and 3+ years of experience are required.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Equivalent Education with 3+ years relevant experience.
Knowledge of project plans, specifications, contract enforcement, and applicable technical standards (OSHA CS).
Detailed experience with electrical overhead and underground distribution lines.
Knowledge of GPS & GIS systems.
Proficiency with SAP.
Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication.
Experience with Microsoft Word and Microsoft Project.
Willingness to travel to construction sites daily.

Responsibilities

Determine customer needs/facility requirements and prepare feasibility study including conceptual design and preliminary cost estimate.
Develop final design, cost estimate and schedule.
Prepare equipment and materials specifications.
Mentor and shadow junior engineers.
Prepare AutoCAD drawings for bid/award construction.
Perform field surveys and stakeouts.
Acquire necessary permits and approvals.
Coordinate design and work process among customer, contractors, utilities and municipalities.
Survey and GPS support tasks: preliminary surveying and layouts, field measurements, final surveying maps.

Engineer Services include but are not limited to the following:

Determine customer needs/facility requirements and prepare feasibility study to include conceptual design and preliminary cost estimate.
Develop final design, cost estimate and schedule.
Prepare equipment and materials specifications.
Support and train junior engineers through mentorship and day to day job shadowing
Prepare Auto CAD drawings – to be used to bid/award construction.
Perform field surveys and stakeouts.
Acquire necessary permits and State/County/Municipality approvals.
Coordinate the design and work process between the customer, contractors, trades, other utilities, municipality and others involved in the process.

Engineer will also be responsible for the following Survey and GPS Support Services

Provide alternatives to completing specific projects,
Complete preliminary surveying and layouts,
Conduct field measurements and/or field survey to produce base plans for engineering design.
Plan, conduct and document the final surveying maps:
Develop final surveying, maps and layouts,

Utilize computer services as required in surveying and mapping activities

What we’re looking for:

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Equivalent Education with 3+ years relevant experience required.
Knowledge, experience and skills needed to review project plans, specifications, contract enforcement, and applicable technical standards, OSHA and other regulatory statutes.
Detailed work experience in electrical overhead and underground distribution lines
Knowledge of GPS & GIS systems are Required
Knowledge of SAP
Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
Microsoft Word and Microsoft Project or Equivalent
Must be willing to travel to construction sites on a day to day basis, attend meetings as needed

Pay Range $60,000—$70,000/year
