Job summary

PIH Health Downey Hospital is seeking an Engineer/HVAC Technician responsible for operation and maintenance of building mechanical systems to maintain a safe, efficient environment and preserve assets.

You will perform preventive maintenance, fulfill work orders, and troubleshoot HVAC, control systems, boilers, and chilled water to ensure reliable performance. A California driver’s license is required; hospital experience preferred.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma is required.
• Competence in HVAC repair and maintenance is expected.
• California driver’s license and automobile insurance required.

Responsibilities

• Perform Preventative Maintenance on HVAC equipment and controls.
• Identify issues during shift rounds and implement corrective actions.
• Operate and repair boilers, chillers, air systems, and related building systems.

Job description

Reporting to the Plant Operations Manager, the Engineer/HVAC Technician is responsible for the proper and continued operation and maintenance of all building mechanical systems necessary to maintain a safe and satisfactory working environment that will sustain and preserve assets. Tasks of performing Preventative Maintenance work on equipment, proactively identifying, fulfilling work orders and actively problem solving. Operate, maintain, and perform repairs on assigned HVAC equipment and controls, chilled water systems, boilers, refrigeration equipment and various other mechanical, electrical and building systems to ensure optimal performance.

Required Skills

• HVAC control systems service and repair experience.
• Experience in servicing and maintaining of a wide variety of HVAC Control systems and air systems.
• Honest, reliable, dependable, and ability to meet the demands of the work environment.
• Good critical thinking skills, accurate data collection, ability to work with little or no direct supervision.
• Ability to identify potential issues during shift rounds, develop corrective actions, and solutions oriented.

Required Experience

Required:

• High School Diploma
• Demonstrate competence in HVAC repair and maintenance
• Requires a valid California Driver's License and automobile insurance.

Preferred:

• Prior experience in a Hospital environment
• Building Automation Control System experience
• Boiler Operator experience
• Five (5) to seven (7) years' experience with Hospital/commercial HVAC equipment and systems
