Job summary

Eversource Energy is seeking an engineer to help develop, expand, plan, design, maintain and operate gas distribution systems to meet organizational objectives.

The role includes evaluating system failures, supporting risk management and asset optimization, and assisting with long-range capital planning. Travel between MA/CT may be required; a Safety Sensitive position with potential for emergency restoration assignments is included.

Qualifications

• BS in Engineering or Engineering Technology is required.
• Minimum of three years of relevant experience; gas industry experience is a plus.
• Solid knowledge of office software and report writing.

Responsibilities

• Develops tactical plans and implements strategic plans for the group to ensure that the Company is reducing risk, improving the condition of assigned assets, and in full compliance with state and federal energy and pipeline legislation and regulations.
• Participates in the development of the integrity management programs, including data quality control reviews.
• Supports changes in philosophy, design approach or business practices with regards to the risk management of assets. Analyzes data and develops reports and innovative solutions regarding projects and risk reduction.
• Tracks and analyzes engineering and project costs and risk profiles to improve risk management process.
• Implements and monitors gas compliance programs that include corrosion control and leak surveys.
• Coordinates with and supports various risk and safety related groups within Eversource, e.g., Enterprise Risk Management, Pipeline Safety Management System.
• Provides regulatory and legislative support, including answering interrogatories, and witness testimony as required.
• Participates in incident investigations determining root causes of failure, after action reviews, and recommended mitigation plans to prevent future similar occurrences.

Job description

This position performs, or assists in, the development, expansion, planning, design, maintenance and operation of the system and its equipment to meet the mission and objectives of the organization. In addition, this position coordinates the evaluation of system failures, and the appropriate resolutions, in order to provide support to operations on unplanned maintenance. Responsible for ensuring that the Eversource gas distribution systems are designed to high quality standards that provide customers with safe, reliable, competitively priced and environmentally sound gas service. This position shares accountability with peers in the strategy, development, and design of the organization’s Life Cycle Plan, a comprehensive long-term plan for the gas distribution system.

Essential Functions:

• Supports development of annual capital budgets and 5-year long range plans through collaboration with program stakeholders and assist with presentation to senior management.
• Supports values and commitment to Eversource Gas’s mission, strategy and values. Provides direction or assistance in carrying out assignments. Coordinates resources required to complete processes or projects.

Technical Knowledge/Skill:

• Requires theoretical and conceptual knowledge of discipline to develop and evaluate a process, procedure or regulatory requirements in the gas distribution business. Also requires an understanding of Company structure and business practices to implement procedures.
• Demonstrated problem-solving skills and attention-to-detail.
• Working knowledge of standard office computer software (e.g., Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.).

Education:

• Requires a BS Engineering or BS Engineering Technology

Experience:

• Minimum of three years relevant experience. Gas industry experience a plus.

Working Conditions:

• Must be available to work emergency restoration assignment as required.
• Must be available to travel between MA/CT as necessary.
• Depending on the specific nature of the engineering role, position may require occasional to significant travel by car. A valid driver’s license is required.
• This is a Safety Sensitive position and subject to random drug testing.

Work includes calculating, comparing, technical writing, editing, planning, evaluating, interpreting, organizing, consulting, analyzing, designing, documenting, specifying, coordinating, implementing and presenting. $100,490.00-$111,660.00
