Job summary

Aecon Concessions is seeking a Field Engineer to support project management on a nuclear-related construction site in the United States. The role emphasizes compliance with design drawings and engineering standards, with close collaboration to ensure safety and quality across field activities.

You will review schedules, manage RFIs, coordinate drawings and material requirements, and ensure proper permits and inspections are in place.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in a Civil Engineering discipline.
  • Minimum of 2 years as a Field Engineer or Project Coordinator in large construction environments.
  • Experience in quality control of rebar installation and concrete placement per ACI code.
  • NQA-1 concrete structural construction experience, including foundations and underground work.
  • Knowledge of construction equipment, drawings, materials, and project standards.
  • Proficiency with construction software (Maximo, MicroStation, AutoCAD, SAP, etc.).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • U.S. citizenship required for access to customer sites.

Responsibilities

  • Meet daily with project crews to review the production schedule and confirm materials and resources are available.
  • Coordinate shop drawings, design specs, material requirements, and project data for quality and contract compliance.
  • Support development of technical requirements for work packages, planning, and scheduling.
  • Identify risks that could impact budget or schedule.
  • Prepare RFIs to clarify conditions.
  • Record project quantities and controls using cost coding with finance teams.
  • Review project specs for QA at start, during, and after work.
  • Coordinate permits and inspections as needed.
  • Plan field layout with crews and mark utility lines before production begins.

What is the Opportunity?

Reporting to the Project Manager or another Aecon designate, the Field Engineer will provide technical information to the project management team and sub-trades to ensure construction work complies with all design drawings, engineering standards, codes, and specifications.

What You'll Do Here:
  • Meet daily with project crews to review and evaluate the production schedule and confirm all materials, equipment, and resources are readily available for production to continue on schedule and within budget.
  • Collect, coordinate, and analyze shop drawings, design specifications, material requirements, and project data throughout the duration of the project to ensure quality and contract specification compliance.
  • Support development of technical requirements for project work packages, work planning, and scheduling.
  • Identify production, materials, equipment, or process risk elements that could negatively impact the budget or schedule.
  • Prepare Requests for Information (RFI) to clarify as-found conditions.
  • Remit accurate project quantity input and controls using assigned project cost coding to ensure project financials are accurately reported.
  • Manage cost coding with Company finance and accounting teams regarding employee time, materials, equipment, and subcontractor needs.
  • Review project specifications for quality assurance at the beginning of work, during project work, and after work is completed.
  • Initiate and manage appropriate certificates, inspections, and other documentation regarding construction production on the project site.
  • Work with construction crews and engineering leaders to plan field layout on the project site, ensuring appropriate utility and commercial lines are marked before production begins.
  • Initiate and manage any permits needed before work can begin.
  • Coordinate subcontractor work methods, schedules, and crews as needed.
  • Reconcile the job close-out checklist with the owner representative and field crews at the end of the project.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as required.
What You Bring to the Team:
  • Post-secondary school education in a Civil Engineering discipline, or an acceptable combination of education and previous technical experience.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience working as a Field Engineer or Project Coordinator, ideally in a project engineering or large process/power construction environment.
  • Experience in quality control of rebar installation and concrete placement in accordance with ACI code requirements.
  • Experience with NQA-1 concrete structural construction, including foundation and concrete underground experience.
  • Knowledge of construction equipment and techniques, rebar drawings and specifications, building materials, and required standards applicable to the project.
  • Proficiency in software related to the construction industry (e.g., Maximo, MicroStation, AutoCAD, SAP, etc.).
  • Excellent computer skills, including proficiency in MS Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.).
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and oral.
