SUMMARY

This remote-based role is part of the High Voltage Operations department, where the electrical engineer will play a key role in analyzing operational events, identifying root causes, and developing solutions. Responsibilities include interpreting relay data and oscillography, assessing test results, and collaborating with field technicians to diagnose issues occurring in the field.

Through close communication with field teams, the engineer will contribute to project scoping, budget estimation, design, and commissioning efforts—ensuring end-to-end involvement in the full project lifecycle. Over time, this role may also include reviewing and providing feedback on consultant-engineered design packages for new sites.

The position offers exposure to a wide range of engineering challenges, allowing for professional growth and development across multiple focus areas. Engineers in this role should be comfortable researching IEEE standards, liaising with manufacturers, and utilizing various technical resources to develop solutions.

Expected travel is approximately 10-20%, primarily for commissioning, project scoping, training, and witness testing.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Other duties may be assigned as needed)

  • Adheres to, supports and complies with all company safety and environmental policies and practices. Ensures all employees, contractors and visitors conduct themselves safely and within company policies and regulatory guidelines.
  • Complete required annual safety training.
  • Participate in job specific training both classroom and hands on training.
  • Conduct engineering analysis of operational events and relay functions.
  • Assist in the commissioning and testing of relay settings.
  • Monitor and evaluate transformer data and test reports.
  • Design electrical schematics for existing projects requiring new or upgraded relays or other electrical equipment.
  • Develop relay settings and perform fault study modeling.
  • Participate in site acceptance testing of transformers.
  • Review engineering work and proposals submitted by consultants.
  • Pursue continuous learning and training to enhance personal skills and support career development.
  • Travel as required for project needs.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field
  • At least 5 years of relevant experience in high voltage or renewable energy operations, design, and/or field engineering
  • Proven ability to conduct independent research to identify and implement solutions
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively within diverse teams
  • Self-sufficient and highly motivated, capable of working independently while driving projects forward

Preferred Qualifications

  • 7–15 years of experience in electrical engineering
  • Hands-on experience testing relays using Doble Test Sets
  • Expertise in relay coordination and relay setting design
  • Proficiency in ETAP for power system analysis
  • Experience programming RTACs for automation and control
  • Strong technical knowledge of transformers, including testing and diagnostics
  • NETA certification is highly desirable
  • Familiarity with arc-flash analysis and mitigation strategies

Language Skills

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to communicate orally with other employees including the proper use of a radio.
  • Ability to follow instructions and follow directions from team members.
  • Ability to write routine correspondence.

Mathematical Skills

  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Communication Skills

  • Ability to read and interpret work from simple and/or complex instructions.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with others.
  • Ability to write routine correspondence.

Reasoning Ability & Decision-making Skills

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Must be organized, with an ability to stay focused on assigned tasks and possess an attention to detail.

  • Possess a valid driver’s license for the state in which you are applying.

The posted compensation is the range that we in good faith anticipate relying on when setting wages for this position. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and this range is only applicable for jobs to be performed in California. This salary range may also be modified in the future, depending upon skills, experience, education, and geographical location.
