Job summary

Atmos Energy is seeking an experienced engineer to lead and execute complex pipeline projects in a dynamic environment. The role involves designing system mains, regulator and meter settings, corrosion protection, and coordinating with Operations to ensure projects meet schedule and budget.

The candidate will evaluate leakage survey effectiveness, prepare technical reports, and maintain compliance with all applicable codes and safety standards.

Qualifications

• Requires Bachelor's in Engineering with 4+ years of professional engineering experience or equivalent.
• Must have a valid driver's license.
• Strong communication, numeric, and analytical skills.
• Proficiency with software to prepare complex documents, reports and graphics.

Responsibilities

• Operates with latitude on complex technical assignments across pipeline construction, maintenance, regulation, and measurement.
• Evaluates leakage survey effectiveness and ensures system integrity.
• Ensures compliance with applicable codes, rules and regulations at federal, state and local levels.
• Assists in coordinating activities between Engineering and Operations to meet project budgets and schedules.
• Provides engineering specifications, surveys and direction necessary for project completion on time and within budget.
• Prepares specialized reports and studies as required.
• Develops approaches to solutions for engineering challenges.

THIS JOB DESCRIPTION DOES NOT ATTEMPT TO LIST ALL OF THE DUTIES THAT ARE OR MAY BE PERFORMED IN THIS POSITION

Primary Duties

1. Operates with considerable latitude in performing complex technical assignments involving, but not limited to, the following:
   • a. Construction of new and maintenance of existing pipeline systems including selection of materials, development of procedures, compliance with applicable codes and inspection of work in progress;
   • b. Evaluation of leakage survey effectiveness;
   • c. Operation of pipeline system including regulation, measurement, curtailment and loss or gain of natural gas;
   • d. Compliance with Federal, state and local rules and regulations;
   • e. Design of system mains, regulator and meter settings and corrosion control protection.
2. Provides input regarding the development and evaluation of the Company's operating standards.
3. Conducts product evaluation and presents recommendations to standards committee based on product safety, economics of use and user friendliness.
4. Reviews paperwork regarding completed jobs for accuracy and adherence to original design specifications.
5. Provides engineering specifications, surveys and directions that are necessary for project completion on schedule and within budget.
6. Assists in the coordination of activities between Engineering and Operations to assure the timely completion of projects.
7. Provides specialized reports and studies as required.
8. Determines and develops approach to solutions.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Educational/Experience Level:

1. 1. Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Engineer-In-Training registration with a state board, and four years of professional experience in engineering, or
2. 2. Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited program, and eight years of professional experience in engineering, or
3. 3. Bachelor's degree in Engineering from a non-ABET accredited program, and twelve years of professional experience in engineering.
4. 4. Valid driver's license.

Communication Skills:

Requires the ability to communicate with internal and/or external customers in order to obtain and/or provide explanations and/or information on technical concepts to individuals without experience or knowledge of the technical area.

Numeric Skills:

Requires the ability to perform algebraic, trigonometric and geometric operations and/or moderately complex statistical and/or accounting methods.

Computer Skills:

Requires advanced knowledge of various software applications to create complex documents, reports and graphics.

Work Conditions:

Works in an office environment, occasionally outdoors.

Requires occasionally performing activities including, but not limited to, bending, stooping, grasping, reaching, twisting, turning and/or lifting.

As a Safety-Sensitive position, pre and post-employment screenings, including but not limited to drug testing as outlined by the Department of Transportation (DOT) and Pipeline & Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA), and motor vehicle record (MVR) background checks are required.
