Job summary

The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) is seeking an experienced construction engineer to support transportation projects and programs through construction project delivery, field engineering, construction documentation, contractor coordination, and review of work performed in accordance with DOTD standards and specifications.

This position is located in Caldwell Parish and requires a current Louisiana Professional Engineer license.

Qualifications

• Current Louisiana professional engineering license required; out-of-state licenses accepted with Louisiana licensure before appointment.
• Experience in construction project delivery, field engineering, and contractor coordination.
• Ability to review plans, specifications, estimates, and project records.
• Willingness to support emergency or disaster response activities.
• No prior licensed engineering experience required – training provided.

DOTD is seeking an experienced construction engineer to support transportation projects and programs through construction project delivery, field engineering, construction documentation, contractor coordination, and review of work performed in accordance with DOTD standards and specifications. This position supports the development, delivery, maintenance, or improvement of transportation infrastructure by applying engineering principles, conducting technical analysis, coordinating projects, and conducting compliance-related reviews.

No prior licensed engineering experience is required - training is provided, with opportunities for career progression and advancement through the Engineering job series.

This position is located in Caldwell Parish and reports to the Project Engineer.

Possession of a current Louisiana license to practice professional engineering.

NOTE: Applications will be accepted from persons licensed to practice professional engineering in states other than Louisiana. If one of those applicants is selected for the position, he/she will be required to obtain a Louisiana license prior to appointment. Position-Specific Details:

Career Progression: This position is part of a Career Progression Group and may be filled as Engineer 3, 4, or 5 based on qualifications and agency needs.

Compensation: These positions qualify for a Special Entrance Rate (SER).

• Engineer 3 - $3,083.20 biweekly
• Engineer 4 - $3,529.60 biweekly
• Engineer 5 - $3,776.80 biweekly

Additional compensation may be considered with extraordinary qualifications in accordance with State Civil Service Rules and DOTD policy.

Appointment Type:

This position may be filled as either a probational appointment (open to all qualified applicants); a promotion (open to all statewide classified and Agency-wide permanent status employees); Job Appointment (temporary appointment in a classified position for a limit of four years); or by detail to special duty.
