As an Engineer 2nd Class you are responsible for operating and maintaining various components of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems, laundry and dietary equipment throughout the hospital complex.
Responsibilities
- Repair, install, replace, and test HVAC equipment and components.
- Conduct corrective and preventative maintenance on HVAC units, including air handlers, exhaust fans, energy recovery units, dampers, sensors, and controls.
- Maintain mechanical equipment such as generators, towers, chillers, and boilers, performing routine maintenance, water treatment, and chemical stock management.
- Perform scheduled readings and safety inspections to ensure patient and fire life safety.
- Read and interpret equipment prints and building automation system data to diagnose issues.
- Document, prioritize, and complete work orders, including logging PM requests.
- Respond promptly to emergency situations and collaborate with specialists as needed.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent, or at least 2 years of work experience.
- Strong knowledge of heating, air conditioning, hydronic systems, air moving and filtration equipment.
- Understanding of building/room pressurization and indoor air quality.
- Proficiency operating hand tools, power tools, equipment, and electrical testing equipment.
- Ability to understand complex oral and written instructions, schematic drawings, and layouts.
- Computer skills: MS Office, printer, copier, telephone, calculator, cell phone, two‑way radios.
- Physical ability to climb ladders, lift heavy loads, and work in crawl spaces, tunnels, and tight areas.
- Availability to work alternate/shift schedules, including evenings, nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime.
Certifications
- Second Class Air Conditioning – Required, issued by City of New Orleans One Stop Permits & Licenses (Trade Licensure Entity: UMC).
- Second Class Boiler's License – Required, issued by City of New Orleans One Stop Permits & Licenses (Trade Licensure Entity: UMC).
