BAE Systems is seeking an Engineer to join the Command and Data Handling (C&DH) subsystem team for Civil Space and National Defense bus programs. You will help design, architect, and deliver avionics subsystems while collaborating with the larger ESA team on architecture, verification, and technical writing.
The role emphasizes cross-functional teamwork, strong communication, and the ability to work in a multidisciplinary environment with on-site requirements.
This role is for an engineer to join the Command and Data Handling subsystem team. As a critical member of the broader systems engineering team, you’ll work to design, architect and deliver the avionics subsystem to various satellite bus programs.

Serve as part of the Command and Data Handling (C&DH) subsystem on Civil Space and National Defense bus programs, responsible for delivering a C&DH subsystem that meets program technical, cost and schedule requirements.
Work as part of the spacecraft networking team, responsible for internal space vehicle networking and as part of a constellation of satellites.
Work daily with the larger C&DH team on technical definition, implementation, and verification.
Support the definition and maintenance of the subsystem architecture and interfaces.
Generate verification and validation plans, and work with Integration and Test team to ensure the subsystem meets requirements.
Produce technical writing (procedural definitions, specifications, interfaces, analysis support and description documents).
Prepare and give presentations to peers, customers, and management.
Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Capabilities Units and the Company. Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment.
Perform other duties as necessary.
This position requires regular in-person engagement by working on-site five days each normally scheduled week in the primary work location. Travel and local commute between company campuses and other possible non-company locations may be required.
Work is performed in an office, laboratory, production floor, or cleanroom, outdoors or remote research environment.
May occasionally work in production work centers where use of protective equipment and gear is required.
May access other facilities in various weather conditions.
BS degree or higher in Engineering or a related technical field is required.
Each higher-level degree, i.e., Master s Degree or Ph.D., may substitute for two years of experience. Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education. Degree must be from a university, college, or school which is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education, US Department of Education.
Coursework or extracurricular participation in the aerospace field (small-sat teams/clubs, Aerospace engineering courses)
Experience in electronics, avionics, or computer network definition.
Intellectual curiosity combined with a solid desire to learn.
Excellent communication and presentation skills.
Effective in multidisciplinary teamwork environment.
A security clearance or access with Polygraph is not required to be eligible for this position. However, the applicant must be willing and eligible for submission, depending on program requirements, after an offer is accepted and must be able to maintain the applicable clearance/access.
Aerospace engineering, electrical engineering, computer engineering degree.
Leadership role in university “SmallSat” type club or organization.
Experience working with serial interfaces (RS-422, LVDS, SpaceWire, etc).
Experience working with various levels of networking stacks and protocols (TCP, UDP, etc).
Spacecraft communication protocols (CCSDS).
Full-Time Salary Range: $64926 – $110374

However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
