Job summary

THE UNITED ILLUMINATING COMPANY is seeking an Electrical Engineer in Orange, CT to lead teams and projects addressing moderately complex Distributed Generation challenges. The role involves independent work with guidance and reporting to the DER Unit Manager, supporting departmental needs as required.

Responsibilities include evaluating DG systems, approving and detailing drawings, coordinating resources across teams, and applying engineering analyses to improve processes and services.

Qualifications

  • BS or BT in Engineering related field and a minimum of two (2) years of related experience.
  • Basic Knowledge of the various operating systems and programs used by the department.

Responsibilities

  • Solve moderately complex Distributed Generation (DG) problems. Utilizes a broad perspective to identify innovative solutions. (e.g. Customer generators, photovoltaic systems, fuel cells).
  • Approve, maintain, & understand drawings (e.g. schematics, one-line diagrams, site plans). Develop & specify equipment, assemble documents & other requirements for assignments of complex level of difficulty using depth & breadth of expertise in own discipline.
  • Manage and provide direction for resources outside of the department/company.
  • Possess knowledge within DG industry and interpret processes and standards related to DG systems. Recommend solutions and best practices where appropriate.
  • Perform standard electrical engineering analyses, designs and calculations using standard methodology and principles and other viable approaches. Develop alternate methods or design concepts to resolve problems or to improve processes/services.
  • Solve straightforward electrical engineering problems. Analyze possible solutions and assess each using standard procedures related to lines and power engineering.
  • Support technical requests from current and proposed customers with regards to generator interconnections.

Required Qualifications
