Job summary

Sonesta International Hotels in New Orleans seeks an experienced Maintenance Engineer to manage mechanical systems, boilers, chillers, and energy management automation. The role directs maintenance staff, performs preventive maintenance, and ensures safe, reliable operation of hotel facilities.

Qualified candidates have stationary engineer licenses, 5+ years in complex building systems, and the ability to work across shifts, including holidays and during storms, while maintaining guest comfort

Qualifications

  • Must have a minimum 2 Class Air Conditioning & Boiler Stationary Engineer's Certificates.
  • Minimum 5 years in school and/or hands-on work experience in buildings with complex plumbing systems.
  • Broad experience in stationary engineering, building maintenance, electrical and plumbing.
  • Familiarity with hotel systems and equipment and repair work.

Responsibilities

  • Perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance and repair on mechanical equipment.
  • Identify and troubleshoot problems, replace bearings/belts, align components, repair fan coil units, and maintain preventive maintenance records.
  • Respond to requests and make repairs in a timely and courteous manner.
  • Assist with shutdowns of water, steam and gas supplies as needed.
  • Change filters on HVAC and fan coil units.
  • Support guests' service needs and requests with professional communication.

What this role is all about

The position of Engineer is responsible for but not limited to mechanical operation of Chillers, Boilers, Cooling towers, Electrical systems, Fire alarm systems, HVAC units, Air handler's, as well as guestroom InnComm system. Directs maintenance personnel and conducts repairs as well as preventative maintenance in the plant.

What you'll be doing
Key Job Functions
  • Perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance and repair on mechanical equipment.
  • Identify and troubleshoot problems, make repairs as follows: replace bearings and belts and check for proper alignment, repair fan coil units, replace piping and fittings and maintain appropriate records of preventive maintenance and repairs.
  • Respond to requests and make the necessary repairs in a timely and courteous manner.
  • Assist with requests to shut down water, steam and gas supplies.
  • Change filters on HVAC and fan coil units
  • Ability to understand guests' service needs & requests.
  • Ability to acknowledge guests' requests in a polite manner
  • Ability to work all shifts as needed, including holidays, weekends, and vacation/sick relief and during hurricanes

Qualifications and Skills

A candidate for this position must possess the following applicable knowledge, skills and abilities and be able to demonstrate and provide applicable examples to support his/her competency.

  • Must have a minimum 2 Class Air Conditioning & Boiler Stationary Engineer's Certificates
  • Minimum 5 years in school and/or hands-on work experience in buildings with complex plumbing systems.
  • Individual should have broad, practical experience in the fields of stationary engineering, building maintenance, electrical and plumbing.
  • Candidate must be familiar hotel systems and equipment in order to make repair within the building preferred.
Education and/or Experience
  • Must have engineering experience and 2nd class Boilers and a 2nd class Air conditioning/Refrigeration license
  • Must have valid Motor Vehicle Operator's license.
